I've lived in San Diego, San Fran, Truckee (near tahoe), Arcata, and Grass Valley. There is a huge diversity in the types of towns and cities there. Imo, San Diego is the only place south of Big Sur I'd live in.

I live in San Luis Obispo, which is just south of Big Sur actually. This place is heavenly.

As for what people generally refer to as San Diego, that is also a big area stretching from the actually city of San Diego all the way up to Carlsbad.

Holy shit...Truckee..I have a pal that has a house there..He leaves in the winter and has to put up 10' fiberglass poles at the edge of his drive way so the snowplow knows where the road is at after a snow....lol
