Son of a *****.

Can't stew over that blown too many men that led to a goal (we're not from Vancouver) because Phoenix earned that win.

They flat out shut down the Hawks offense.

Zero flow and none of the Hawks forward lines looked good.

Get em next time. Not the end of the world.

Some thoughts...

I think the line of Kane/Toews/Hossa needs to be broken up. I have gone on record saying I hate Kane on the left side and we didn't see vintage Kane tonight there. Spread the wealth a little and put Kane at one of his natural positions.

I'd think hard about taking out Brunette/Bollig and putting in Hayes/Frolik. Just a thought but it could provide a spark and a little more pop.

Agreed. This is a defensive team they're playing....why make it easy by lumping your best players on one line...one shift. Give them more to defend..spread them out a bit.

Im also not the least bit interested in seeing O'Donnell on the ice again.

I feel like they played like shit. And for gods sake man, can someone win a fucking faceoff! For fucks sake! That really pissed me off tonight. I didnt like some of the lines, and just in general played like shit. How the **** did they allow 3 fucking goals tonight. Uggggghhhhhhh

But, game 1 on the road, and loss in OT. I still think they should win the series, but that shit was still *** as ****.

tbh that game shouldnt have gone to OT

if anything, this game showed me that the blackhawks can and SHOULD win this series

i agree with breaking up that line

kane-toews-hossa

will keep seeing yandle all day

split em up, just like the hawks did in the finals 2 years ago...yandle, just like pronger couldnt be on the ice forever

They didn't play like shit... Phoenix just played their game.

The Hawks didn't push the tempo like they should have- especially with the early lead.

I don't think Frolik brings jack shit to the ice, but I AM for Kane being taken off that left wing. Give him the 2nd center position with Hossa on his wing.

I'm down with this -- Frolik needs not to be playing he is -to be tactful, a non-impact player (which is I guess- the opposite of a clutch player).

I read in the Trib the other day about the lines, and Phoenix hoping to counter the top line of the Hawks and though (although my ISP managed to fail me in that I lost my post) - that that is exactly what they should do... it was a dumb idea to have put them all on one line (and even dumber if the Hawks added Sharp to the top "PP" unit with Kane on wing ... as that basically means that the opposing team basically needs to find the personnel to neutralize one line - and then take on the other 3 lines of a not all that great defensive team...

The Hawks don't have a dominant top line -they are not the 80's Edmonton Oilers... so stacking a single line is never going to work for them.

If that "gameplan" is stuck to throughout the series (which I don't think Quenneville actually can stick to anything -- so there is some reason for optimism...) = Hawks series loss, end of story ... plus add to this that the home team gets the last change ... makes it even easier for Phoenix to get match ups they want ...

However if you look at it in the sense of playoff hockey -you need to win on the road; you want to win one of the first 2 -doesn't matter which one. I suppose the question is -- can they?

And in other "news" - with O'Donnell at -2 (along with Hjalmarsson) ... the perfect set up to whine about that - of course, you go for the guy at the end ... priceless

actually worthless, is pretty close to priceless -- take your pick. ;)

I'm hanging Meatball before I do O'D, but man that blown too many men was painful.

I didn't even need Eddie's telestrator work for that one. It was right there where the puck and 2 stripes were. It hurts no matter how bad the Hawks blew that game

It's only one game and they played well. I feel like they can win the series but it doesn't matter after that. Blackhawks have the worst goal keeping in the playoffs, and that is not a good thing. I genuinely admire the Blackhawks, but the reality of it is much worse. Godspeed.

May the Force be with you.

Goaltending is the least of my concerns based on this game.

Crawford was fine.

Yeah I thought of that after I hit post- and then went on to another site ( another one of my instances of drive-by multi-tasking).... it was basically inviting said user who griped about Oduya, to gripe about what I think was one of his perpetual whipping boys instead or in addition to Oduya... my bad.

A team with no powerplay is -well, they don't go too far in the playoffs ... let's just be blunt about it.

___

The goaltending -yeah well statistically I suppose that is true- but realistically what it acutally means is that all of the goaltending is about the same --- it was the norm in the 80's to have save percentage's in the high 800's and have 4+ GAA... none of which any team has in this season's playoffs.

The offense is limited, the defense is occasionally porous, the PP doesn't exist... it really doesn't matter who the goalie is unless they are in the ballpark of pitching shutouts every night (did the team have one this season?) .... which is only relevant to the point where - you really are asking a lot of the goaltenders to be that finely tuned. I don't think it happens all that often in hockey (at any level).

-The other thing too -- since I picked the Hawks in 6 in the brackets- well, what the hell do I know ... I think every team I got to pick probably lost their game one and the 3 series I missed out on - I would have gotten them wrong too (I am on a roll ... :D ).

All in all it kinda looked like one of the Hawks losses to the Blues, though not quite as bad (And that's because PHX doesn't have the offensive ability of STL).

Got out hit and just generally outplayed (draws included) by a defensive minded team. We've seen this before (STL, Nashville, hell, even Dallas). Play the next one the way you usually played the next one against the Blues- come out hungrier and faster. Use the defensive speed to push the pace and get behind them. Also, feel free to hit back... PHX isn't that big.

Speed is key. GAS!
