Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if internally they've considered Montgomery for a start but in the end decide against it. Best not to get too cute.

Starters are on a short leash at this time of year, and long relievers have more value than in the regular season. Mike Montgomery likely plays a huge role in this series.

Thats why I said just talk here and when it is ready. I will just merge yours. No worries.

So, if we're already talking about the game in a thread, why is it not the game thread?

What is "official"?

I am optimistic, and I don't want this to sound - as my dear friend used to say , all "Oh, God. Oh, Suck" - but Jansen unavailable, Kershaw not available until Game 2, Dodgers can't hit lefties and we have Lester starting....the Cubs need to expect the very best from the Dodgers in order to not lose a game they think is in the bag.

No game is a given. I hope John Lackey drills that into their heads so they are not too full of themselves.

The team most likely to beat the Cubs is the Cubs. I am confident Maddon and vets won't allow that, but I am getting worried that there's too much talk of the Cubs being "overwhelming favorites". Why? We don't hit curve balls and they will throw a zillion.

There is no reason to expect a Dodgers win in Game 1 at Wrigley, so that is exactly what I worry about.

(Of course, with Bum in Game 3 at SF, and Game 4 there as well, I labeled Games 1 and 2 as "must win". But I wasn't really wrong. If we had lost one of those, that 5-2 deficit would have been 1000 x worse.)

If I were a betting man, and I am not, I think the Dodgers go with Kershaw in Game #2 and ride him in hopes of getting 6 good innings out of him and bring in Urius (7th)and Blanton (if needed), with Jansen waiting in the wings. I think Roberts feels like he is going to have to "steal" a game in the first two at Wrigley to give his team a chance to win the pennant. With Jansen spent from Thursday night, don't be too surprised if the Cubs can get an early lead, Robert's writes game #1 off to get his pitching staff in line for games 2-7. Due to injuries throughout the season, Roberts has had to think outside the box all year and the situation he finds himself in now is no different. I think he likes the idea of Kershaw (basically threw a bullpen session in game 5 of the NLDS) 4 days rest against Hendricks, and taking his chances with Hill on the mound against Arrieta at home. That also potentially leaves Kershaw available to start game 5 (if needed), and/or start/relieve Game 6 or 7 as needed. Given the Dodgers current pitching status, Urius, in my opinion, is key. Does he stay in a long reliever role or does Roberts save him for Game #4 as a starter. This is going to be an interesting series...this will likely be a chess match against Roberts and Maddon, and I like the situation the Cubs are in heading into the series. Game #1 is a MUST WIN for the Cubs.

The Cubs need to and will win game 1.

I think the Dodgers are crazy if they pitch Kershaw 2, 6, and relieve 7. They spent everything to get here, and will now be taught a lesson in game 1.

Giving them a nearly must win against Cubs best pitcher, Hendricks, who can match zero's with him for 7 innings for 200,000,000 less. Then they get the wild card, Arrieta. Will they get walks? They will need them.

Then the general, Lackey.

The dodgers are screwed. They don't have the lineup of the Nationals or Toronto. I think the Indians are the last team left that can pose a legitimate threat.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Illinois Fighting Illini
Today 538 has the Cubs as about a 2:1 favorite to win the NLCS and a 68% chance of winning today's game.

Lil Ms Stella left off the roster so Zas can be in the pen against this lefty heavy dodger lineup. Zas can also be the long man if there is trouble again.

Montero has his back issues, but remember, the commissioner can grant injury replacements.

Seen a rumor that the Dodgers added Enrigue Hernandez to their roster and is starting today? Who the hell is that?

I fully expect the Cubs to drown the Dodgers with LHPers. Lester, Wood, Montgomery, Zastryzny, Chapman: Unless someone's throwing a no-hitter, I doubt any RHPer sees a third time through the order. Depending on how the series unfolds, we could see Lester on four days' rest in games 4 and 7, or out of the bullpen. Force the Dodgers and their MLB-worst .622 OPS against lefties to beat you.

A utility man. His stats fell off the face of the earth this year but he does hit lefties well. He had a good couple of years before 2016.

Yep they could see Lester-Wood-Chapman today and Hendricks-Montgomery-Chapman tomorrow.

Enjoy!

Would it kill them to have a day game or two on Saturday or Sunday?

Night games always look so dark on TV because there are no lights in the outfield.

I see. Never heard of him. And the way I read it, I was thinking it was a pitcher. Haha that's why it was shocking to me.
