Good to know. I thought they were a professional pitching staff.
The scenerio you might see Bum or any other dominant pitcher like him in a Game 5 or 7 must win.
Is usually if team had to exhaust bullpen to get through previous game..

For myself, im not saying they would use Bum to pitch multiple innings on 2 days rest but it possible they could use him to get through an inning or two early in a game depending on amount of pitches he throws in game 3. .

This will be an interesting series. I am nervous about this matchup with the Giants. The Giants are very battle tested in the post season and they have this mind set that they just need to make it and they are good to go. We have to take one of these first two games to have a prayer. The only saving grace if we go to SF 1-1 is if by some miracle Jake returns to the Jake of the 2nd half of last year. I am really hoping the Cubs do this because I don't want to have to deal with these Giant's fans once again.

To summarize this thread: The Cubs, who are indisputably baseball's best team and the roster with the fewest weaknesses, are "finished" if they lose one game to the Giants, a deeply flawed team who limped into the postseason after one of the worst second-half performances in recent memory.

Makes sense.

Playoff baseball =! regular season baseball. If the Cubs go on to lose tonight, they have to win 3 of the next 4 with no home field advantage and facing one of the three best pitchers in baseball right now (Bumgarner).

There are certain times when a comeback is possible (every Cubs fan knows that they were up 3-1 against Florida in 03) but I don't think I'd want to bet on having to be near perfect for four straight games.

I'd wager that the winner of game 1 is probably 85% to win the series no matter who it is. Both of these teams and the way they set up in a playoff style are just not likely to lose 3 of 4.

Interested to see who Joe uses in the 8th inning. Rondon has given up 8 ER in his last four outings, Strop has faced 14 batters since he came back, and Edwards is highly unlikely to get that call. Maybe he'll go Chapman for two innings?

You are 100% wrong. They will absolutely pitch him out of the pen in game 5 to win.

There is no way they are pitching him on two days rest out of the bullpen just to win the NLDS. It throws him off for the next two series that you obviously need him to pitch a lot of innings in to win. MAYBE he'd give him an inning (ala a Save) but even then, I doubt it.

You also have him for another three years after this one as well so you're not going to risk future injury either like doing that would do.

I think he will still stick with Strop in the 7th and Rondon in the 8th with Edwards in when they need a strike out. Rondon has been better when starting a inning vs in a pinch. Edwards has a strong no contact rate. VS tough lefties I would expect Montgomery over Wood. Wood would be used more in MR.

You keep saying that and you're wrong. Two different segments on ESPN1000 today addressed this. The first with David Kaplan and then again in the afternoon with Mark Silverman.

If the season is on the line in game 5, Madbum is coming out the pen, period.
