The LA Kings play good hockey.

That being said I'm taking the Hawks 3-2 in the penalty kick shootout.

I'll take "what 21.7mil dollars buys you" for $400, Alex

And the question is - "What is 3 goals in regulation"

Well, that's not true, because $21.7 million is their combined salary for the entire season. And we're just over 1/8th of the way there.

I don't get it...why would you purposely leave out the two goals in OT? I get that they were 3 on 3 situations but they might be the two most important goals and certainly the the two goals that an owner would pay the most for. If you are going to rip on someone, atleast do it in a way that makes sense. Leaving out two goals that helps a team win a game, on the spot, doesn't make sense unless you just don't want it to...

Interested to see how that 3rd line plays out tonight. A whole lot of youth right there. I still think Hartman needs some time in the AHL but he plays with some passion and that might be what the Blackhawks need right now. Kero has looked good in his past two and Dano had a pretty good half of a year with CBJ. Wouldn't be surprised to see one of those three get a shot up on the first line or even second line at some point throughout the game depending on how things are going.

In the no shit sherlock comment of the day. Q on Bickel learning he was going to Rockford "I don't think he was happy"

Bickell could have done plenty to stop that. There was a time that he would have come out after a healthy scratch, hit everything that moved, dropped the gloves, and stayed in the thick of things. He was gliding around and just hoping something would happen, instead of making it happen. Really think the AHL is the only move and I've been suggesting it for a couple of weeks. Think it saves the Blackhawks $950k but that will be used up on Dano or whoever takes his place in the future. Definitely a bummer...wasting $3mil in the minors on a cap strapped team isn't an easy thing to swallow.

I really can't remember Bickel ever dropping the gloves off the top of my head.

Edit- after reviewing tape at Hockey fights he has had a few per season, mostly protecting himself after a big hit or falling on his ass and sliding into a goalie.

Because that's gimmick hockey. Might as well give guys credit for goals scored in the shootout as well...since they help the team win the game too, right?

For a team that's struggled to score goal, I guess I'd expect two of the highest paid guys on the team to score goals. They've played together since Hossa got here. Kane, meanwhile, continues to get new players shipped in and out of his line....and now they have to move Panarin up to "get Toews/Hossa going"...because they can't manufacture 5 on 5 goals themselves.

Now...I know...here comes the "well they do so many other things to help the team..."

They've buried contracts in the AHL or Europe. It's part of cap management now. Just the way it is.

I'll predict Bickel gets a buyout at next opportunity.

Right now with Keith and Rosival on LTIR, It doesn't save the 'hawks anything. I'm a bit surprised, though. I would think that as long as Keith is LTIR'ed that Bickell would see a game here and there to build up *some* value, and when Keith is better, re-waiver him. Maybe they were worried about him creating a metric shot-tonne of negative value for himself?

Oh, and yeah, Q with the Captain Obvious moment of the season.

I'll predict Bickel gets a buyout at next opportunity.
I doubt it, but I could be wrong. beginning in the summer before 2018 you have an imperial buttload of rookies looking for a raise, and even something as simple as raising Panarin or Dano to 2MAAV is going to be the same cap impact as Seabs raise. That being said if Bickell is bought out next summer, we're stuck with a 1.5M buyout penalty for 2018 when every bit of cap is going to be needed to resign a lot of youth. It could mean the difference between keeping Panarin and breaking up The Breadmaster and Buttery Pat. With how few re-ups are needed next year I'd be shocked if Bickell was bought out--even if the alternative was swallowing another 3.050M

I'm a bit confused...you cannot simply bury contracts in the AHL or Europe anymore. If you could, Bickell wouldn't have been anywhere near the the big club this year.

You're absolutely that the highest-paid guys should be producing more. I'm just not getting too worried about it because there's an overwhelming amount of evidence suggesting that they're going to have hot streaks of their own, and they'll probably happen soon.

While it is "gimmick" hockey, it helped the team get two pretty important points in what is going to be a dogfight in the West. Those were two important goals and in the current NHL where every single team is going to battle for an extra point by playing "gimmick" hockey, they matter and are important.
