snell looked good...i dont think he can be considered a bust, he was not a high pick and coming out i doubt anyone thought he was going to be anything special. He is a solid defender with a decent stroke. It'll be interesting to see how the rotations work when dunleavy comes back.

What the Thibs homers fail to realize (and I realize that Portis did not play last night) is that Jimmy Butler really didn't get his shot in the regular season until Deng was injured. Imagine Deng never getting injured and Jimmy not getting that playing time. One thing I know for sure is that guys like Doug, Portis, and Snell wont get relegated to the dog house for missing one defensive assignment in the second quarter in a regular season game against the Phoenix Suns.
Agreed. Guys in Thibs system seem to really only get a shot when guys got injured.

As a side note, Moore looked solid in his minutes. Way better than Brooks imo.

Its amazing to me how so many here are Thibs bashers. The guy was a great coach plain and simple. To hear shit like "He wouldn't have played Butler if Deng hadn't got hurt. Snell never got a chance. McDermott just sat on the bench"......... et al. Somehow, despite all of this negativity toward the guy, Butler became an all-star. Gibson became a very valued all around player and now Mirotic and SNell are NBA starters, not to mention Noah becoming defensive player of the year. This would not have happened to players who were drafted pretty low and allowed to develop fully as well being drafted in the first place for their grit and potential upside.

lol, this is silly.

Butler only got a chance because Deng was hurt. Butler got playing time as the team suffered injuries in the lock shortage 2011-12 season, in his rookie year. He showed some flash, thus his playing time increased. Butler still was on the bench in 2012-13 until Deng went down in the playoffs then Butler started playing 48 mpg. It was then they said "Butler's our SG!" and he started at SG until they traded Deng then moved him to SF where he didn't put up a lot of points, but did play lockdown D. Butler really stepped up last season, and good for him. I think that was more Butler's doing than anything Thibs did though as Butler was motivated to get paid more money.

Niko also only saw playing time thanks to injury. He barely played in the playoffs until enough people were screaming for it, and his confidence seemed rocked in the playoffs last year as he shot awfully. Snell also only ever saw time due to injury or desperation.

If Thibs were still here, the lineup with Dunleavy out this year would be Gasol-Noah-Butler-Hinrich-Rose. Don't think otherwise. What we're seeing wit Hoiberg thus far is guys playing who deserve to play regardless of if they're lockdown defenders or not. Hinrich getting a DNP last night is testimony to that. Moore seeing action is also testimony to that.

Thibs developed guys who were already veterans and up and coming or got a chance thanks to injuries, otherwise he just plays the guys he knows can play and plays them heavy minutes. Thibs style is best suited for a different era of basketball. With the style being now a days less minutes is better in the long run, Thibs may never be a head coach again in this league if he can't drop that philosophy of his.

If anything the TNT crew proved they're Thibodeau homers.. As did the guys who did the broadcast. They spent most of the game talking about Thibs over anyone else. Reggie Miller even said our identity was not a player, but Thibs.

The only thing they're right about right now is that the Bulls don't really have a distinct leader. Noah is not that guy, nor should he be, because frankly he's not that good. I think your leader should be your best player, or close to your best player. Rose lacks the personality for that. Jimmy is a young guy, but he may be ready to take that over, but we'll have to wait and see.

definitely disagree with you on that. noah is still very much the teams leader. like you said, rose doesn't have the personality for it, nor does jimmy quite honestly

I'll give Thibs credit for this though, he played Niko all 82 games anyway and with Jimmy he was willing to give him a shot to defend Carmelo while he was still an unproven commodity. Granted, with Butler that was only because Deng was in foul trouble or something, but he did show willingness to throw him in defensively after that. Snell got the shaft though imo.

TNT is always annoying with their coverage. I'll actually listen to the analysis when its Stacey and Neil. Very interesting to see the new offense. Very different that just the basic pick and rolls. E'Tuan Moore looked good.

I don't think some of the rotations worked, the bulls still had some small droughts. Obviously this is something that will take some time. Also, who would've thought that Snell would be a starter. I think we all wanted him cut by now.

to be fair Stacey and Neil aren't good analyst either....they are big time homers

I use to think he was a great radio announcer when he was there.. when he moved to TV, I was like "uhhhh, this guy kinda sucks". King is a big time homer, but I appreciate him.

Well what home team broadcasters aren't biased homers? Credit to Stacey though, he does point out flaws all the time. Big time homer for sure though...but that's what makes it fun.

Neil was a great radio voice in his day. All the Jordan highlights you watch now have Neil giving the call from the radio. I was actually excited about the move to TV initially, but hated him after like 3 games. Much more tolerable with Stacey though.

Maybe that's what I want in a commentator... :derbulls:

They at least breakdown plays. Only time TNT does it is to have Kenny run up to that giant screen and show 2-3 plays max. As much as a homer as Stacey is, he at least has good basketball knowledge. And the replays are actually about the game. That's more CSN than the actual analysts, but still. IMO, that stuff makes a big difference.

False. I am a Derrick Rose fan. More than being a Derrick Rose fan, I'm a Bulls fan first. Your posting would lead one to believe you're the opposite.

My post? My post was just in response to you bringing my name into a random post in a thread I didn't even post in. LOL, and then you preach about being a Bulls fan and criticize my posting? What a joke dude. Why don't you just leave me out of it next time?

Thib's was a great defensive coach, but he had shortcomings on the offensive side of the ball. The bottom line is that he won a lot of games in the regular season, BUT lost when it mattered. That's why he's not the coach anymore. Let it go, man. Thib's was stubborn, and wouldn't listen to anyone else.

I'm glad he's gone and ready for a coach that can bend a little, and get the best out of his players. I remember everyone bitching when Doug Collins being fired and Phil Jackson being hired. Sometimes a change is needed. Thib's stubbornness got him fired, period.

Bottom line, it was time for a new voice. Thibs developed his players in his way and the bench we have now is s testament to him. Minnesota is where he belongs, teaching those young wolves how to play defense that will serve them long into their careers. We are whatever we become BECAUSE of Thibs. Golden state doesn't win if previous coach didn't have a special skill set and ability to teach special mentally competitive traits.
