In reality, Snell would get his pocket pick by Wall way too many times for it to be worth it. He doesn't have great handles. McDermott at SG kinda leaves him out to dry against Beal. I suppose you could cross match again and stick Dunleavy on Beal and McDermott on Pierce, but I think Pierce would go to town on him, even if McDermott guards against players like him better. Who knows though? I'd be willing to experiment only because I don't think we'll do very well conventionally anyway.

Anybody want to get thankbanged, just disagree with me. :smh:

I wasn't talking so much about this game... I originally thought McD might fit at SG on certain matchups with Rose at PG. I've been a big proponent at McD playing with the starters as I think they would find McD for open 3's much better.

McD would be less of a liability with a btter lineup, imo. I've noticed when he does get into a game, let's say with Brooks on the point and Dunn?Snell on one side...McD will hang on the other side. Brooks and Noah never pass the ball to McD if you notice.

Brooks will dribble to whatever side McD id not on. Watch next time if he gets in. The players don't trust McD either, which is partly why McD runs around wildly at times. In the future, there will be set plays to drive and kick to McD, but it's definitely not happening now, with the little time I've seen him play.

lol well I thought you were talking about this game (this is the IGT after all) so my apologies if you think I'm just arguing against you.

I think when we look at the sample size from early in the season of McDermott playing with the starters, we'll see that he had better games. I too was advocating this at the beginning of the year. The shot quality would increase dramatically working off of Gasol, Rose, and Butler instead of Brooks, Taj, and Butler/Niko. That's just a natural thing as he's the 4th option at that point instead of the 1st or 2nd option like he was being used near the beginning of the year. That said, they could've done more than just running that single double screen play every single time. Everyone in the stadium knows what that play is. Use him in the post, do some stuff that Atlanta does with Korver. That'll help him out.

That said, I do think McDermott did a little to play himself out of the rotation. He was getting double digit minutes and not producing offensively. If he made more shots, I think Thibs would've given him a little more room to fail on defense. That's kinda what Niko did.

I was kinda generalizing at that point. You and I have agreed that McD needs to be used differently. This is why I get so frustrated with Thib's. Heck, he even used Korver the wrong way. Had he used Korver correctly, he might still be here. I don't see ATL worrying about Korver's defense so much.

All Korver does for ATL, for the most part, is try to find open spots at the 3 pt line. Ironically, Kirk does the same thing now, especially when Thib's plays Brooks and Kirk together. Yuck!

I do think McD posts better than people think like you say, which is partly why I've wondered about him at SG on certain matchups. I can't agree with you on the McD getting double digit minutes however. The most he averaged from what I remember was 12, still not a lot. And keep in mind, he's only taken 27 3 pt attempts all year. Not a lot.

korver early in his career struggled defensively too and has since gotten much better. so there is hope that mcd can do the same...problem is its going to take time. maybe next season he will show improvement in that area

I can't agree with you on the McD getting double digit minutes however. The most he averaged from what I remember was 12, still not a lot. And keep in mind, he's only taken 27 3 pt attempts all year. Not a lot.
You can't agree? Then I will have to prove it to you. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/mcderdo01/gamelog/2015/

Perhaps that does average out to about 12 minutes by the end, but he was getting consistent double digit minutes for the most part (10 out of first 13 games, 11 out of first 17).

I agree that 27 3s is a small sample size and that he can do better than he showed, but at the same time, he just wasn't doing well at that point.

OK, let's look at the stats and make a couple points:

1 - He played more than 12 minutes in 6 of 24 games
2 - the most he played was 24.18 minutes. He scored 12 pts, shot 55% from 2, shot 40% from 3 with 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal.
3 - He was inactive after game 17 only to disappear after that
4 - Game 6 he play 17 minutes, scored 8 pts, went 3-4 from 2, and went 2-3 from 3.
5 - It appears to me, that against Portland, in a 18 point loss, his 2nd highest minute total of 21 minutes, McD went 3-10 from the field, and Thib's gave up on him to me.

Doesn't seem like he did too much wrong to me numbers wise. But my point still remains, he hasn't got a lot of minutes or playing experience after that 13th game against Portland where he was 3-10 to me.

Good start for the Bulls. really like that Dunn is coming out strong, he's had a couple rough games.

You can throw out all the stats you want to support your point, but I'll use my own two eyes to support my mine. Watching the games, it was apparent that McDermott was not ready to be a consistent contributor in the NBA. He was over thinking on both sides of the ball. His defense was atrocious. He was woefully out of position every time and committed dumb fouls consistently. He was rushing shots. He wasn't using pump fakes or footwork to gain space. Plain and simple, he wasn't very good on either side. Snell had already proven, in the little time Thibs played him up to that point, that his defense (vastly improved from last season) could be trusted to not hurt the team while on the court.

Just a FYI, Tables require more resources to render than plain text. A lot of tables will make it impossible for some people on mobile devices to open the threads.
