llini need to learn to break the zone. This team is so streaky with shooting. Need some consistent shooters.

The more I watch Kofi, the more I realize he has zero basketball intelligence. Probably gets it from his coach.
You can’t be serious. Orlando Antigua is one of the best big man coaches in the college game.

Roast away people but they should make a run to sign Bruce Pearl this year and get rid of Underwood.
LOL. You want Illinois to sign the SOB who turned Illinois in with phony evidence back in the early 90’s? The Iowa assistant who fucked Illinois? The NCAA sanctioned Illinois basketball because of him. That isn’t ever going to happen. I wanted Scott Drew. Underwood isn’t going anywhere. The team has clearly improved. It’s ranked in February for the first time since 2009.

They are basically playing the pic & roll at the top of the key by doubling it. There are zero back cuts or ball movement to counter that defense and the offense keeps taking long 3's. Where the **** is the coaching????????????????
Coaching? Did you see how passive the players were? Did you see Giorgi 0-4 at the line and for the second straight game throw the ball away at a critical time? Griffin had just knocked down a couple of 3’s. Did you see Ayo take over the game? No? How many shots at the rim did they miss?

There aren't many things that would make me completely turn away from Illini bball, but hiring Pearl would definitely be #1 on that list. Fortunately, it is an impossibility. It will not and can not ever happen.

But just the idea that someone would even suggest it......eeeewwww!

Georgi dunked a ball between rim and glass. Missed the FT's as you mentioned. Botched a pass underneath and lost it out of bounds. Tried to take a charge inside the protected area and sent the opponent to the line. And committed another killer backcourt turnover.

Horrible performance.

I would like to see Underwood leave a player in with three fouls and 12 minutes to go. Coaches pulling a guy for long stretches lose more of that player's minutes than they would if he actually fouled out. Why give up ten minutes of floor time mid-game to save him for the final minute or three?

Underwood probably needed to get Trent back in in the first half. Also when Maryland pressed and went zone, Illinois went flat. Underwood needed to match the Maryland press with an Illini press. But all that said, Illinois got the score to 55-56 and then Giorgi threw the ball to Maryland and then a 3 happened. Ball game.

That hurts
It does. Jalen Smith is a lottery pick. Maryland is the best team in the B1G right now, but this is their year. They are losing a lot of production and their incoming class isn’t very good. Illinois is just a touch beneath them and has a great class coming in. Miller was at SFC last night. Got to see a full house and how badly Illinois needs a guy who can really shoot it. Kofi isn’t going anywhere. This team is much deeper and much better next year.

But this is this year. It hurts. The place was packed. Going for sole possession of first. Beat Maryland all of the first meeting until the end. This looked promising but you can’t miss a bunch of FT and points in the paint.

If UI hired Pearl they wouldn't be able to pay his salary because every donor over 40 would turn away from the program immediately.

Clunker last night, never expected Gio to lose his focus so much this year. Tough to get momentum back after a long winning streak is snapped, and Maryland really played well after going to the zone. I thought they should have gone some 4 guard, and Griffin should have played more.

They kinda have to beat MSU now or they risk a five game losing streak and being back on the bubble.

Say what you want about Pearl, the guy is an absolute genius coach. Wins everywhere he goes.

It isn’t genius to be a cheater and get caught multiple times. Auburn isn’t a blueblood. NCAA won’t have any issues dropping the hammer on them.

Some big time love for Curbelo this weekend. Played the team with the sons of Lebron and Dwyane Wade, and was reportedly the best player on the court. I think it is available on ESPN 360, but I have not watched it myself.

Curbelo has been one of the best players in the country this year. MVP of three (out of three) national tournaments that his team has played in. There are a few highlights in the link above, and Sierra Canyon has two top 20 players.
