I'm seriously curious of Parade's angle here. Even a place like Illinois Loyalty..a homer's paradise is a morgue. Smith has done ok recruiting early on, but a bump was to be expected post -Beckman. Carmoni Green is a nice get from Miami, FL but other than it's a pretty non-descript class. Barely any guys in the Top 50 of their position groups etc.

The question is will the NFL Lovie fame be any sort of recruiting aid. When signing day has come and gone that question will be answered.

Eh, that's WAY too simplistic of a view on recruiting nowadays. IMO the recruiting will be less about Lovie and more about guys like McGee, Nickerson, etc. Lovie doesn't strike me as a guy who really has a heart for recruiting and isn't really willing to play the game of it but he's a nice name to have behind you in certain senses. Issue is though if Illinois continues to suck this already shaky "new car smell" class could fall apart.

Small picture I'm concerned with the way the Illinois defense has looked. They've looked really disorganized and undisciplined. Getting run over by a pathetic Purdue offense missing it's best player doesn't help either. The team itself has looked undisciplined as well. Tons of penalties.

It's kind of interesting to see Smith reverting back to his old "Rex is our QB" schtick with the Lunt deal yesterday.

What are you talking about? So Turner, Zook & Beckman were interim HCs? And, in the grand scheme of things, Tepper ruined the Illinois football program more so than anybody else.

Please stop talking.

After reading it 10 times and looking into the coaches I think he meant Tepper was the last non-interim HC to win a Big10 game in their first season. Turner, Zook, Beckman all went winless in their first full years in the Big10.

Either way, not sure why that's a feather in Smith's cap to this point or makes Smith losing to Purdue(?!) at home in ANY way acceptable.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Illinois Fighting Illini
Congrats to Lovie for being the first non-interim Coach to win a game in the B1G in his first season since Tepper.

This team left at least 3 scores on the field, but you have to like the turnover margin today and the first defensive score of the Lovie Smith era.

Nice win over Rutgers. Not overly dominant in a certain sense but the final score is what it should be against a team of Rutgers ilk.

Illini sports talk is saying that there is a very good chance we'll see Jeff George Jr at QB today. I hope so.

Illini QB has lost a fumble and so has the punt returner. I think I'm watching future Bears players.
