Slauson being a bargain worked out nicely, but he was a player that no one else wanted. Not even Emery wanted to take Slauson, he wasn't even a priority free agent. When Lance Louis signed with the Dolphins Emery had to target someone to replace Louis...he looked around for a while before finally settling on Slauson. Should he get a lot of credit for signing a guy no one else wanted not including himself?

Yes, Emery should still be given some credit. All GM's must sign guys Like Matt to file roles or holes. Its still up to the GM to find the best fit for there respective team. Many key signings are not the priority or high dollar contracts.

You do realize that the Slauson signing occurred 16 days after free agency began on March 12th? Free agency moved fast and furious and all the top free agents were gone by then.

Nobody here is arguing that Slauson was a top free agent. The point is there was more options to chose from then what you originally suggested. It worked out in our favor on this particular move but yet you seem to have a problem with it.

But even if this is true, at least Emery circa 2013 finally realized that the worst option on the market was still better than the best OG on the current Bears roster.

There was one other player on the roster that played guard at the time, and that was James Brown a UDFA after the 2012 draft. Chris Spencer, Chilo Rachal, Lance Louis were gone. Rachal was cut, Chris Spencer had knee issues, and Lance Louis had a blown out knee from the Jared Allen situation. Emery wanted to bring back Lance Louis, but when that didn't happen he moved on to the only other option left on the free agent market that was under 30.

I know people lack the mental timeline to keep up with something that happened nearly a year ago, but it's the simple truth/fact of the matter.

Slauson was the only player left worth a shit there was NO ONE LEFT. Everyone else with a pulse had signed elsewhere with other teams. It's not like there was 30 starter level offensive guards on the market, there was a hand full and of those hand full most signed with their previous teams or in the case of the Titans they paid out the ass for Levitre. It was literally a bare market when Slauson signed.

What is being said is it's not as if Emery scoured the free agent wire looking for that turd that Aaron Kromer could polish up into a player deserved of a multi-year contract extension. Slauson was the only young player left who projected as a guard. Britton played seven horrible games at guard in Jacksonville before going out with yet another injury. He played his entire college career and most of his NFL career (the few games he did lump together) at offensive tackle. When Britton didn't work out at offensive tackle they tried him at guard, he was horrible there combined with injuries so he wasn't brought back.

Wow we're talking about yet another no-brainer which is the entire point of this thread in the first place....Slauson was a no-brainer because he was the only player left who didn't have a history of injuries and wasn't 30-plus years old. I suppose if you want to get technical and say there was some guys in the twilight of their careers or guys with injury histories left out there on the market you would be "correct". But we all know how much everyone on this board and in this fan base likes players with injury histories lining up to be potential starters.

You are just being stupid about the whole thing...Trying to minimalize Emery's impact on the O-Line. When in fact he was very pro-active in signing FA and Drafting youth...

I also guess you forget he drafted a Guard in the first round that happened to start every game, Signed 2 FA Guards, and Garza is also a G/C and signed a UDFA Center as well?

So I think Emery covered his bases very well with respect to the Guard position with a lot of thought and process. Slauson was ranked much higher than you give him credit for, ....He didn't just luck out and sign someone nobody else wanted...That is Ridiculous.
