Is a Hot Dog a Sandwich?

Even though the bread for a Hot dog isn't separated, I still think it is a sandwich. It is a piece of meat wedged between two slices of bread. Sounds like a sandwich to me.

Only one way to know. Go to a restaurant that has both hot dogs and grilled cheese on the menu. Order a 'frankfurter sandwich' without any further clarification. Be persistent not to suggest any other term or agree to a different term. Then report back.

Here is some criteria, imo.

1. You must be able to pick it up and eat it with your hands and without your hands touching the fillings.

2. The fillings must be sandwiched between two discrete food items.

The 2nd one makes it tough for a Hot Dog, but a Hamburger is definitely a sandwich. That's just craziness.
