I'm really surprised i'm the only one to of actually voted Yes. Is this still the land of opportunity? HELLS YES.. if you think otherwise, dont fucking live here (not to be so blunt or rash). There are plenty of reasons why this country is the land of opportunity. Most of you guys (not you specifically on the forum) are just soo fucking lazy and expect everything to be handed to you. Thats not opportunity. Opportunities come and go and you either take advantage of it or let them breeze by. I dropped out of college and am making a good living. This land is filled with MANY MANY opportunities. What i'm sick of is the bullshit they preach about how everyone has to go to school and get a degree. Sometimes school isn't for everyone; in my case it wasn't. For those of you who do go to school - I'm not trying to belittling anything. You guys accomplished something I never could and i'll always give my respects to that. People just need to open their eyes and realize that we can ***** all we want, but where else has it better? If you truly believe so - please move there and make a great living for yourself. It's not about how hard you work, but how smart you work.

That's all nice and good to say until you find people that haven't found real work over a consistent amount of time.. including fast food and grocery stores..

So yes. America is a great place to live.. It sucks too.

Thats the thing.. people think something bad happens and they need to sit there and say how unfair this shit is.. my mom and dad make less than i dont even want to say. My sister graduated a triple major with a 4.0, is trilingual, and even interned for Obama in the white house. It's even rough for her to find a job, but could she work @ a less paying job with her resume? Hells yeah. I yell at her all the time if shes bitching about money fucking GO OUT THERE, do waht you have to do to make money. Sell fuckin drugs i dont care. Sacrifice things like TBO said.. cable, phone, things you DONT NEED.. rush mentioned it before people in america's living standard is wayy too high. People are fucking spoiled. Bottom Line. My friends are broke and still smoke cigarrettes, which cost in the tristate area anywhere from 9-15$ a pack. 90% of the people you talk to probably have zero money management skills. Look at how dumb america is; they see .99 cents and think its a bargain and a half. They go out drinking and partying when they can't really afford it. Of course there's stories out there where there are people doing all of that and still arn't doing well. I'm not saying that doesn't exist because it does. My parents are prime examples first hand. What i'm saying is if you think theres no opportunity in America - you are certainly mistaken.

This is a great point...I'm one of those smucks who cant find a full-time job after college...but I do have a part-time job and therefore I'm not struggling for money or anything...I live with my parents still and they of course help me out. Its not something I like to do anymore, but I do with what I can...I of course consider myself a great manager of money...If I see myself spending too much...I double done and quit spending money. Quit going out until I build up some cash reserves. I just wish other people would think like this.

I think the definition of opportunity in America has perhaps changed...I mean at its core its still the same, but it use to be that you could get one of those manufacturing jobs and you could make due and live just fine...That all is changing now...Its still a land of opportunity as far as if you have a good idea you can likely make money off it. Thats all still true. Innovation is still the key. People just need to change their tactics and expectations I guess. I myself do not find much opportunity out there and its discouraging for me, but as far as being innovative I dont even know what I want to do in life, so thats a problem for me as well.

the opportunity that the founding fathers and immigrants saw is not the same as it is now and the modern world...it can't be the same with the way things have changed
