I understand you have a big problem with the backup QB and the cap hit.

Have you let KC know they are doing it wrong with paying 3.3mil for a backup yet?
didnt answer my question...to nobodys surprise

If bagent plays this year and plays well he will not be a bear in 2025.
Why? That 5th rounder? Maybe he'd like to be part of getting a ring. May never get another chance.
Kidding aside, I know that you meant his trade value at a much higher value but there's also a lot of value in having a #2 that can actually play if needed and that trade value remains with a Poles offer in 2026.

To be fair, we're all getting over our skis over a preseason game against what were likely #3s. Will be fun to see what he does Thur. against a great team's #2s.

So I have no idea if he will be worth 3mil or 7 mil or should be cut.

Why not traded?
What if he doesn't want to be Williams' backup for life? UDFA into lifelong backup doesn't sound like a fun story to me.

The fun story left for Bagent and the Bears is Bears find a UDFA QB and turn that no pick into a draft pick. If his story goes on to be a good QB it's not going to be with the Bears.

It's like Xplosive said, this is nothing more than Bears fans love affairs with bad backup QBs over better QBs. That's the fun story for you.

I have no problem trading him, but not for a 6th, better off letting him play and develop and see what you have in him before making any decisions.

It's not crazy. It's crazy that some Bears fans think he would be satisfied with being a backup for life.
That's not how it works. You keep moving ahead until you fail and then you drop back to keep trying.

If he's a proven valid backup here he's moving on because we have a #1 QB who seems to be working.

To be fair I'm not thrilled with 6ths or 7ths either. May as well offer me pennies because that's all those rounds are, pennies to make up draft trades imbalances and you pick glorified UDFAs with them.

If someone came up with a 5th I'd consider it.

Nobody is giving a 2nd. I'm sure he knows that, avoid the formalities and just give him a 2nd tender contract if that's the case. You have even get to low ball him for $2 million.

Or do what I said and put him on the block before 2025 and try to get a 4th or 5th for him. If he's the backup so many think he is some team may pay that for what they've seen of him.

I don't think we should pay $3mil for what I've seen of him.
If Williams is injury prone for the Bears we need better. If he's not Bagent is very replaceable.
Who said you could get a 2nd for him? If he is a worthy back up you tender him to control him, if he is a worthy backup he won't sign for $2M, if he is a worthy backup and you can't trade him for a 3rd or 4th $3M is chicken feed for a capable backup.

Then why put a 2nd tender on him if you know you won't get it?
With that tag you are keeping him from being able to advance. You're wasting your time and his.
Just offer him the $3 mil contract extension if that's your goal.
Just because you have the ability to screw with his life for another year doesn't mean you should.

As shown in the above article he has higher aspirations than to be Williams' back up for life.
You did Fields a solid and took a lower offer, why are you dead set on screwing Bagent because you can, Mr Poles?
You could've kept Fields around as backup for $3 million if backups are that important to you.

If I'm Bagent and you're treating me like you say you want you're creating a very big cancer for your team that goes way beyond the pay discrepancy between UDFA and #1 QB.

Why do they franchise tag players when they know they won't get 2 1sts? Because you can negotiate with teams for lesser compensation. If not, you keep him for the cheap 1 yr guarantee. It's not that hard. The other choice is to let him go for nothing.

You franchise tag to keep the player you can't get a contract done for at the risk of causing bad will, but then we're talking someone that could be worth it.

You're wanting to cause bad will for a backup. That cheap 1yr guarantee is still letting him go for nothing.

The other choice is to put him on the trade block for 2025 to see if you can get a 4th or a 5th. You get something for a UDFA, he gets to go somewhere to further his career or you and him find out if he should sign a contract for $2-3 million per year.

Like I said, just because you can screw with him doesn't mean you should.

Honestly I think he is worth a 2nd. He is definitely a top 32 QB in this league and should be starting somewhere. That is worth a 2nd.
OMG, are you serious? this Is last year all over again.

Hey how about this: Why not just keep him for our backup? does a backup need to be bad? why can't we have a bad ass backup QB? we don't need to shop him. Let Teams call Poles for Bagent.

That makes too much sense for this organization.

Will be fun to see what he does tonight. The hedging vs elevation over one pre game was amusing.

I wouldn't even play him. Go into week one healthy. I would play Rypien 1st half, Reed 2nd.

FFS,a $3M tender isn't screwing with him, but there will be a million things more important to discuss than Tyson Bagents second contract until it is relevant, if ever. I'm out.

He has two more years. I think we look to trade him after this season. We will see him this year, and if he looks a lot better in his second year, we might get a decent pick out of it.
