I think you are playing semantics with the words "conference" and "league"

I don't remember if the AFL had it's own set of rules up until it joined the NFL

or League Baseball (MLB) is a professional baseball organization that is the oldest of the four major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. A total of 30 teams now play in the American League (AL) and National League (NL), with 15 teams in each league. The AL and NL operated as separate legal entities from 1901 and 1876 respectively. After cooperating but remaining legally separate entities since 1903, in 2000 the leagues merged into a single organization led by the Commissioner of Baseball.[6] The organization also oversees minor league baseball leagues, which comprise about 240 teams affiliated with the major-league clubs. With the World Baseball Softball Confederation, MLB manages the international World Baseball Classic tournament.

So they merged in 2000. So when the AL adapted they were still separate. So it would fall under the grandfather clause

They did. But they also had separate commissioners, separate rules committees, etc. etc. They even had separate TV networks that never crossed over because of no inter-league play. If I remember correctly, I think the first few Super Bowls were broadcast on both networks until they merged and all fell under the NFL hat.

And yet, the league can't change how many balls make a walk. Hmm. :smh:
Some day they may experiment with speeding up the game. There's an ancient proverb that says "man with four balls cannot walk."

The fact remains that until 2000 they were wholly separate legal entities with voluntary agreements to abide by the same rules and commissioner. That was an important distinction until that time. They even used different sets of umpires. Since then MLB has been closer to a conference model but still retained the dual nature of the DH only being in the AL. Regardless of the progression the separation of leagues was important until 2000.

I agree from a legal standpoint, but thye've been the same sans the DH for eons. And that's the point.

I'm just not going to argue endlessly with you on this one Brett. They were different leagues with different presidents and a voluntary agreement to follow the same rules and commissioner. They even had their own umpires. That is different enough from the conference model to make the distinction that you are unwilling to make. I can't help you with that. Carry on.

All reporting to the same commissioner. You want to argue that they are different and have autonomy. They really did not act that way at all.
But we can agree to disagree TC. There is nothing wrong with that.

They voluntarily reported to that commissioner prior to 2000. That matters and there's a distinction from the conference model. Whether they acted on that autonomy or not is not germane to the discussion. The question was whether there was a difference from the conference model of other sports. There was a clear difference as a matter of fact if not of practice.

But we can agree to disagree TC. There is nothing wrong with that.

I don't mind disagreeing and nearly everyone here has stated that MLB is following a conference model, in reality if not in name, ever since 2000 with the DH being a relic of the old arrangement, but prior to that there was a difference and frankly it's not an opinion. The opinion comes on whether or not the fact that they are called leagues instead of conferences holds any import, or the vestiges of that old agreement matter today. You are clear that they do not and I'm inclined to agree with you there.

The irony continues....I'd be none to surprised if you continue to do this for yet another season incorrectly.
If you keep posting the way you have been, this is what you're going to keep getting.
