No................for me it is still the 1982 and 1983 drafts that Jim Finks gave us. Those drafts set the foundation for not only the Super Bowl team but for the next decade of winning football.
Probably so but this is pretty exciting based on potential.

Interesting as in interesting. Not good or bad but interesting. Most things to watch. Just interesting with all the changes made and new vets / young guys to watch.. I'm not saying best off season (maybe it will be ).

I'm asking more about interesting. 82 83 were great drafts and did set us up I agree. Did 82 or 83 seem more interesting at that time? Better sure, more interesting?

And may I add to this excellent post...........after the '81 draft, Da Bears signed an UDFA named Jay Hilgenberg, out of Iowa, who eventually went to 7 straight Pro Bowls. What has been a personal peeve on my part is his name has never been mentioned as a HOF Candidate by the so-called "experts" of the committee. This is a disgrace on them. Some of you have read a rant or two on this by me, but I won't care who gets into HOFs, until Jay gets in.
And that was when UDFAs were not drafted after 12 rounds, not 7.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bears
Possible franchise QB.
largest 1 year turnover of talent.
New young players and vets to watch everywhere.
Early draft pick to root for from trade.
Good year to keep up with college potential coming out. (I don't)

I gotta say this year is in my top 3. Been watching from 82 till now. How about you?
It would be interesting if they had more than one player to get excited about. They have DJ Moore and....

I can list about 15 players I'm excited about. I guess were different that way.
Okay who?

It's not against any of the decent players Jenkins Sanborn Kmet just the reality that there's one borderline great player/superstar player on the team. So please tell me the 15 players you're so excited for.

No. I'd say '09 was by this point in the offseason. Never had a QB before, finally giving up on the Ortman years. Orlando Pace coming in. That was a lot of promising changes all at once.

This and the years leading up to this have been a slower burn and is still ongoing. On paper that team was ready, this team still has some work to do.
Even if this offense instantly clicks I would expect the defense to hold them back, and I don't expect instant clickage from the offense.
That team was beyond ready on defense.

Well, I enjoyed the 1963 championship, the 1985 Super Bowl season and the 2006 Super Bowl season, and every season inbetween.

You saw the 1963 championship . Wow, only a few ppl here saw the 1985 Super Bowl season

The 'D' will hold them back somewhat w/o an elite Edge rusher, but I think it won't be as bad as last season.

I too watched '63 Championship......as a kid...i understood the game in generalities but not the intricacies as not many years later. Nobody will ever forget Richie Pettibone's INT in the End zone to seal the game...with I believe 31 seconds left. And the Giants were 'driving'.....

The '84 season was a hoot watching all that talent start to come together. Of course, expectations were sky high going into '85. Having Todd Bell and Al Harris hold out sucked but the team still dominated.

I had loads of anticipation going into '86 with Vince Tobin taking over for Buddy Ryan and the team getting back Bell and Harris. The team was 14-2 but the playoffs came down to having a healthy QB and McMahon was not and hence the loss. It was an incredible shame that the talent that was assembled could only win 1 SB. So much rides on the QB's shoulders.

I don't have the same level of enthusiasm going into this year. I know this team still lacks enough talent to be competitive. I still see them as being last place in the NFCN. It will be fun watching Fields though and knowing Poles has 2 1sts in case Fields does shit the bed. I don't expect him to shit the bed.

I look at this season the same as the '83 season....anticipating that the young talent will start to bloom, but still have growing pains. Bears went 8-8 in '83. Winning games they weren't expected to and losing a few they were expected to win. I sense the same this season, but growth as a team is what I'm expecting. Competitiveness in ALL games, a few 4th Quarter come backs if needed, (of course not in every game, but at least 1 come back win), defense functioning as a cohesive unit with a few dominant games by them, same with the O-line, and what everybody is looking for........a leap in the Passing game.

The difference to me is that there is nobody on the D side of the ball that parallels the expectations of the cast assembled on that legacy team. That team was so full of characters on D as well as huge talent. This D is not even on the same planet IMHO. The best assets on D now are the LBs but I'm taking Singletary, Wilson, and Marshall over them. And, they had Al Harris too.

I could see it all coming together starting in '83 with that team and especially in '84. I had a lot of faith that McMahon would be able to be the leader they needed. I think Fields can be the guy now but time will tell there. So much comes down to the Oline and I am totally skeptical about the current one.
