Sucks that Arietta didn't get another W he deserved because our blowpen is horrendous.

The fact that Rondon gets credited with a win after blowing the save tells you just how meaningful pitcher wins are... I'm sure Arrieta's just happy the team won.

I think in the case a pitcher blows a save the win should be relegated back to the starter. Or RP before hand

Yeah, something. Rondon deserves nothing from that game, except maybe a Rizzo uppercut.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm just flat out wrong on a regression for Arrieta or at least to the extent I was expecting. Of pitchers with at least 70 innings, Arreita has the 4th lowest HR/FB rate at 3.6%. What makes that absurd is 3 years ago that rate was 15.0%, 2 years ago 14.5% and last year was 12.3%. I get that his ground ball rate has gone up betwen 5-10% to 50.5% this year but still seems rather lucky. Additionally, his strand rate dropped a little today but is still 15th best in the majors with pitchers having at least 70 innings. Before today he was 7th best. That strand rate is sitting at 80.1% for someone with a career strand rate of 68.9%

The even crazier thing is not including today, Arrieta has more fWAR than Shark. I..... I don't even...

A new stat for those saber geeks..
A Blown Save Win

Any pitcher who has a potential win blown by a reliever in 8th or 9th inning gets credit for a BSW no matter if team eventually wins or loses game.

What been big for arrieta, especially lately is that he not allowing many base runners through the first 5/6 innings.

In his 12 starts.
hitters
first time through order batting .218 with 21 Hits and 8 BB
29 base runners out of 108 PA, just over 2 a game.

Second time through order batting .180 with 18 hits and 7 BB
25 base runners out of 108 PA, basically 2 a game.

So pretty much in his first 5/6 innings he allowing just 4 base runners per start.

What been hurting him is the 3rd time through order..
Teams batting .241 with 14 hits and 4 BB
18 base runners out of 63 PA, almost 3.5 a game

He needs to figure out how to get guys out after theyve seen him a couple times and adjusted

I hope we can do something to get Lake fixed and back on track. I like him and I hope they don't give up on him too early. He has potential, he just has some things to learn and work on.

I like Lake, too. I'm really surprised at how much he struggled this season, I honestly think I had high expectations for him. I still think he will be a good player and he's only 24 so he is still young. If they aren't going to play him now, the best thing for him is probably to send him down to AAA and then call him back up if the Cubs trade Ruggiano/Coghlan/Sweeney.

I was one of the few people that was actually excited when he got the call up last season.

Looking at OBA alone they should be playing Ruggiano and Cog every day at the corner OF spots.

Alcantara should be in CF until Bonifacio gets back. Have to see how that shakes out though.

I would demote Lake after the ASG. I'm guessing they promoted Rosscup because they have a deal in the works for a LHRP.

The priority should be to get the rotation set. After that they can worry about trying to build trade values. Bonifacio is on Rehab in Azl with Fuji so I expect those 2 back soon. That would be a big priority so I'm figuring they would be looking to trade Barney and Villenueva to clear roster before those 2 get back.

1 step at a time.

I concur. Junior Lake belongs nowhere in the vicinity of Clark and Addison, unless he is on another team. I am not even sure I want him as a utility player. Packaging him and moving him for something the Cubs need would be in my plans. Hopefully, the Cubs agree.

Apparently the Mariners are somewhat interested.

Alcantara didn't catch that two run blast that was nearly outside wrigley. Clearly he's a terrible CF :D
