Hope we can survive enough to see the top of the order one more time. Alcantara can go for the cycle, or watch a nice, long, gooey Rizzobomb all over the Reds face.

Gonna be sad when he gets sent down and we get shutout twice the next 3 games with our CF going 1-12

Great game for Alcantara. Glad to see the Cubs finally win a game. It's been about 3 months since we last won.

Reel it in people. This is how people put to much expectations on players because they are on a bad team. It's why I think the cubs brass would truly like to bring up Baez and Bryant at almost the exact same time so they can go through it together. Y'all are excited about alcantara wait till you get a load of the thunder that isn't far behind.

So, is Alcantara just the lightning? Works for me. You need lightning to happen before the thunder!

This game shows what happens when someone other than Rizzo/Castro can actually do shit. So many losses this year were close games where one(or both) of Rizzo/Castro has an off day and they couldn't scrap anything together.

The Cubs have taken so much bashing for doing exactly what they said they were going to do, it's just nice to see some fruits of the labor so to speak. I can't wait to see this Bryant kid hit the ball at Wrigley!!!

the bashing was coming from posters who weren't real cubs fans or just being asses on a forum because they can..

those of us who have been fans long enough realizes it takes time to acquire top talent, develop them, and then unchain them..

seeing alcantara play the last 2 games has been refreshing, yesterday with his defense, today with his bat..
hopefully he adds a little lift to some of the other players and gets them excited to wanna get up there and hit and play harder..

but yes, like silence said were excited to see 1 kid who was no. 3 of the big 3 .. cant wait to see the main course in baez and Bryant swinging their bats at WF soon

I waiting for their next trade or two because that's when I believe those 2 will be called up, after they clear some spots on roster..
im probably the minority on this, but I think Epstein and hoyer may feel they need to unleash the future now and start the process of building up the core of this team

Unless a team is willing to overpay, I would consider Valbuena too valuable to let go right now.

I can't think of a single reason to turn down any good offer for Valbuena.

He kills us with his "errorless" defense. He adds little. We have somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 candidates to play 3rd. Ok, that includes Olt who has shown little. But seriously, I would trade Valbuena and play Olt every day. If he succeeds and gets experience that matters, good. If he continues to struggle - and that is being kind - we suck more, which is kind of the point right now.

I don't see the value in Stumbles that others do, though I know he is a cheap option.

I agree some weren't real fans and others were just trying to stir shit. But there are many true fans who don't get it, and were upset. (My sister being one of those. No fan is more passionate, but she doesn't get the rebuild.)

And I could not agree more that watching Alcantara has been refreshing as you say. That is a perfect word for it. Lots to look forward to.

Skippy Schumaker overruns a fly ball he should have easily caught, and allows the winning run to score. he hits the wall after his misplay, so, naturally, analysts on mlb say "what an effort by Schumaker....crashing into the wall."

I was mainly talking about the ones on here stirring the pot...

I know its hard for some to really see it was needed but if you really look deep into where this team was after the 2009 season from the minors on up, it had no light at the end of the tunnel and it would've just been like a revolving door of mediocre seasons with some flashes if they didn't blow it up and build a new foundation.

I know some people say its BS but the deal made with Zell was/is a big reason why they needed to drop payroll by 40 mil and couldn't keep the merry go round of high priced vets going..

the sale have confirmed to me that when Sam Zell and the Tribune Company decided to sell the franchise, there were several bidders who were looking to buy the team with a minimum of long-term financing needed to make the purchase. That included the Ricketts family, who multiple sources have confirmed to me wanted to use much more cash in their offer than Zell would accept due to tax implications on the transaction.

Zell and the Tribune Company required anyone who was interested in buying the team to heavily finance their purchase and to allow the Tribune Company to maintain a five percent stake in ownership for several years going forward. One prospective buyer who quickly withdrew from the process told me "it was the most complex financial transaction he had ever seen," with another telling me that he wasn't willing to jump through all of the hoops that the deal required. However, the Ricketts family stayed the course before eventually reaching their breaking point. They told the Tribune and Zell in the summer of 2009 to either make a deal or they, too, were going to withdraw from the process. At that point, according to sources, the deal quickly moved towards completion.

I believe that deal was for 7 years, in which we are in year 5 since purchased.

so, knowing they weren't going to really be able to compete by building a team via FA and there was crap in the system to build on what better time then then to like I said blow it up and rebuild..
