Well, we don't want to trail going into the 8th or 9th, but it is nice to know that the game isn't over when we do.

They didn't get enough tonight, but still showed they aren't quitting in any game.

After leaving the bases loaded and getting nothing, we allowed a solo HR in the bottom of the inning, and that proved to be the difference.

Still much more interesting to watch a team that has a lineup that can keep you in the game when down.

Going into this season I expected the Cubs to struggle in April and was hoping to be within spitting distance of .500 at the end of the month. Now I want them to win every series and consider today's game very important. So much for managing expectations huh?

Ok.. Maddon actually got stupid there. .

Pinch running for rizzo there? Tied or take the lead , your defense is already weak
You have to tie the ballgame to have a chance to win. There wasn't anything stupid about the move.

Sure it was..

wood isnt that fast. And rizzo not that slow ... the OFers were playing deep, so no balls were going into gaps or over their heads.. there was very very very little chance if any that wood or most any runner was scoring from first unless soler homered...

OK. I'm sure you know the baserunning times of Rizzo and Wood much better than the management.

That makes no difference. ....

With the OFers playing deep , there very little chance if any for a runner to be able to score from first because the OFer gets to balls quicker and get it in quicker cause their cutting off gaps and balls over their head to prevent doubles..

So, a runner on first unless it billy Hamilton and that could end up close has very little chance to score if any...

Edit :

I just think maddon over thought that situation. .

Besides even if they tied the game. .. now their lineup has 2 pitchers hitting and 2-3 players out of position defensively going into extras...
Their best hitter on bench now

So IOW you've never seen an OF bobble a ball or mishandle it to allow a runner an extra base. The cubs were losing. You were against the move because you were already managing ahead to an inning that wasn't going to happen unless R1 scored. Great managing on your part.

I said veryvery little chance....

I hope they think ahead before they make big moves...
Look a little silly if he didn't know what to do defensively if game ended up tied. ...

Nah. It would have looked like he actually went all out for a win. It's only silly to someone who would rather worry about managing an inning that didnt happen.

Well im sure both sides have supporters on that situation. .

if rizzo were on 2B then id take my chances there but like I said having wood run from first , not much chance to score from there...

So I think one thing we all realize going forward is that if this team is going to be a contender past July they are going to need another pitcher. I know they would like to pluck a young pitcher from someone and that isn't an easy task. That being said the Marlins look to be absolutely awful and sometimes none too bright so I wondered if they would listen to any offers for Henderson Alvarez? You wouldn't think so but Miami does some strange things. If they would listen what kind of package would that take or would the price just be way too high? Honestly I do realize how ridiculous this sounds on it's face, but I'd pick up the phone anyway if I were Cubs brass. The worst they could do is hang up.

Kris Bryant starting in CF picking up where he left off last night. Interesting.

If Bryant gets hurt in the OF for a lengthy time, someone's head needs to roll.

Weli is catching Hendricks tonight. Let's see how this duo works together.

I heard this morning that they've considered him there before and actually is the only outfield position he's ever played with any regularity (did it some in HS and at SD State). It's not quite as crazy as it sounds. Still if Fowler goes on the DL I suspect Alacantara will be back up to play CF.

Not playing it as a pro and learning on the job at the highest level is as crazy as it sounds.
