It's not any rental, it's Price. Cubs got Russell for Shark. Price is way way way better than Shark, so the take will be higher IMO

The A's were a team with a closing competion window that was leading the American League when the trade was made. A "go for it" moment if there ever was one and don't foeget people still questioned the move on Beane's part. The Cubs are a team in a barely opened window holding on to the second Wild Card for dear life and while strength of schedule probably favors them keeping that slot getting Price doesn't look to improve it much either. If they were 3 games out of 1st in the Division an argument could be made but the odds simply don't favor that kind of move when they simply make it their highest priority to sign Price in the offseason.

Honestly, think the biggest issue is just hitting with RISP. As a team they are hitting .229/.340/.352. The league as a whole is hitting .254/.332/.395. Obviously the OBP is nice with the cubs but you're not exactly driving many runs in via walks. They are 25 points off the average and 43 off slugging.

Thats been a problem since Theo got here. lol Not blaming him but the Cubs haven't hit with RISP in forever. The Cardinals had that one year of .330 which was ridiculous.

I don't care who it is....it is still a rental and it doesn't guarantee a damn thing. Lester has been as consistent a pitcher as you could find and it still took him half a season to get accustomed to the National league. What if it takes Price that long? You look up and the season is over...you're out assets and you STILL have to outbid opponents to keep your guy. Rentals are stupid and Theo didn't get this far being stupid.

Lester had an era under 2.00 in May. He missed ST, thus the adjustment period.

Good Lord....miss the point much? Doesn't mean shit "how" it goes down but if they did a Price rental and he goes 5-8, do the Cubs have a chance of doing anything but loose assets? Assets that could come in handy when they are really needed.

His starting value is a 33rd pick.

Det won't be able to rape teams due to Cueto also on the market.

That is why Det will trade out volume to get volume control.

price is worth Edwards and a toss in. Abot it

The guy with the biggest trade value is still Hamels. Due to his control and cost friendly contract. He could get Baez Vogelbach and a pitcher. But that is due to what you are buying.

It comes down to that. What you are buying. Price and Cueto will net each of their teams a sandwich pick for retaining. So that is the starting price. Basically a team's top 10 talent. Now if it a talent that gets into the top 50 then the vet you are buying should have some control going on.

Cubs got Russell, the pointless toss in and McKinney For a year plus the rest of the season on Shark and Hammel's expiring deal.

I felt Bean paid too much but he was in win all mode.

The sense of urgency is not high with the Cubs. That is why they would never over pay. It counters the work that they have been doing up to this point.

Couple reasons why you should trade for David Price now instead of waiting for offseason to bid for him as a FA..

Off season comes , you have him visiting and negotiating with a bunch of teams..

You wanna get a couple of extra months to negotiate with him by yourself. ..

You get him in a playoff race with his potentially new teammates, they get a bond built between them..

Some good AB's out of Russell the last two days. Fowler has been better since the AS break. Things are starting to change, me thinks.
