I bet teams are regretting not trading for Castro when he was cheaper. Unbelievable run.
I remember a thread where someone asked who would get to .250 first Russell or Castro when they were both around .240..
I said Castro could get to .270 before Russell gets to .250..
Someone thought i was joking..

As of now.. Castro. 269. Russell. 241

He was in the .230's. Pretty remarkable turnaround.

Impossible. He doesn't belong in the MLB.

Hahaha...... even I, who has bashed Castro as much as anyone, is amazed at this run by him! And for me, it's not the 4 for 5 hitting, it's the great defensive play he made that even got a golf clap from the reds.

My biggest gripe with him was never for his performance, but for his mental makeup. It seems that all he needed was good leadership..... enter Joe Maddon. And people gave me shit for saying that I thought Maddon was good for +5 wins in the off season???! :lmao:

Yes. He does make some mental mistakes, but for me he seemed to boot the easy GB and made the spectacular. That can be frustrating, but Maddon has handled him well. I tend to think those who didn't agree with us that Maddon was worth some wins are rethinking their logic.

My part in that debate was than you couldn't quantify what Maddon, or any manager means to his team, except maybe losses and even then it's an inexact measurement. Of course anyone that thinks Rick Renteria would have this team in the same place as Joe Maddon is crazy. What Maddon does is unquantifiable and, as I said in the spring, has as much to do with "managing" in the business sense as it does with managing in the baseball sense. Cubs Den had a great piece on the unquantifiables of this team yesterday:

Just as I was about to write off Jackson and send his swing n missin' ass packing....he suddenly is driving everything in sight.

It's either just one of those years or this team is loaded.....

here's hoping it's the latter.

He still has too much swing and miss. He is just seeing the ball well right now.

He would be great as a lower in the order hitter like Soler. My opinion he is better than Soler on both sides of it at RF this year. Not so sure over the next 3. Soler could be injured the whole time or bring his game up to the next level.

But Jackson is not a lead off. So ride him while he is here. He is not a fit on the team.

Didn't get a chance to watch any of the games, but kept up on an app. Looks like Jackson had a huge series! That's great to see. How did Hammels and Hendricks look?

Still have not seen how many runs scored/prevented Maddon has allowed.

Could Rick have done this? We will never know. I doubt he would have changed his mind and suddenly started to bat the pitcher 8th so the Cubs likely would have scored more runs and perhaps in turn won a game or two that they lost because of that theory.

Show any proof of that besides its just a theory.

That doesn't matter. How has Maddon handled Castro who is contributing to wins? How has Maddon handled the pitching staff? How has Maddon used all the players, so that they are ready to play when their opportunity comes? Those answers are clearly worth wins. Go back to watching Ventura.

LOL. The answer is not only "no", it's "hell no".

You have no proof that batting the pitcher 8th would have had the Cubs score more runs. What would have helped the Cubs score more runs is if they would have put the ball into play more with runners on 3B instead of striking out or swinging for the fences and hitting a lazy fly.
