@TheCCO: #Cubs v. #Angels, Shoemaker (4/3):
Fowler CF
Heyward RF
Bryant 3B
Rizzo 1B
Zobrist 2B
Schwarber LF
Soler DH
Montero C
Russell SS

Guessing this will be the lineup for the series

We will see if the new additions help with hard throwers. Richards 4 seamer has been over 97 all spring. It was a little over 95 last year.

ehh I wouldn't be so sure...joe likes to tinker and get everyone involved. I wouldn't be surprised if Schwarber doesn't play the 2nd game against the lefty

I agree throughout the season, but this is only game 2

Besides, I'd take my chances with Schwarber over Szczur

I'm excited for the season to start, but does anyone else think starting interleague play the first series is kind of dumb?

I think so too.

On a side note, I just wish the game today was televised. Oh well, I guess I go root for Pittsburgh...

Maybe I'm wrong but I think with the way interleague play is set up now, there is always an interleague series going on.
Just happens that the Cubs drew the first one

I don't care for Cubs n Angels playing a ST game today while everyone else is off Besides the ones starting the season

Does seem a little weird that the Cubs and Angels are the only teams playing one last ST game today...the day before both of them open the regular season together? Why? What's the point? You'd think they'd either have the day off like most other teams or just start the regular season today like 6 teams are already doing.

Still wish I could watch, though.

Found this as the reason why they play today..
Originally the Cubs Angels series wasn't suppose to start til Tuesday but was changed to Monday.
So, makes sense now why there was a ST game scheduled between them today.

@LenKasper: Btw, today's oddly-timed exhibition resulted from series orig. Tue/Wed so Angels didn't want 2 days off. MLB moved it to M/Tue. Makes sense.

It's a necessity of there being 15 teams in each league. However if they were gonna do it I sorta feel like you should pair rivals. A sox/cubs series to start the season would be some what hype.

I don't personally believe it's a necessity. Everyone played interleague years ago and it was only on certain weekends, IIRC. But I get your point, beckdawg. If it was an opening series with the Sox, I would get considerably more hyped about it than this one.

Well I mean if you really want every team to start on opening day or the sunday night prior to opening day you have to have 1 team from each league play. I kinda think though you might take a cue from the NFL where you have the champions open on sunday night(thursday for NFL obviously). Not exactly sure if a WS rematch would be best or something else but cubs vs the angels isn't something very exciting other than it just being opening day.

Mets-Royals play tonight.

How can you get more hyped than Opening Day?

And, seriously, people actually get hyped about games against the Sox? I have never cared a bit.

I'd get more hyped for a September division game that actually meant something than any opening night game, let alone against a team I couldn't give a rat's behind about.

if that's the strategy then why wouldn't you do it in game 2? how is game 2 any different than game 28 or 73? if the strategy is to sit Schwarber against lefties then its the strategy and Szczur will start IMO

You mentioned Maddon switching up his lineups..

You do stuff like that once you get into the season, not usually game 2 when your getting your everyday guys AB and just at start of getting in flow of season.

We really don't know Maddon thoughts on Schwarber against lefties, though I'm sure Schwarber going to get opportunities to bat against them to show he can be an effective everyday player..

Szczur most likely won't be on team when Baez comes off DL, so no point of getting him unnecessary starts. Would rather see how Schwarber fairs against lefties early on in season

Edit: just heard that LAStella may start over Schwarber on Tuesday
