You mentioned Maddon switching up his lineups..

You do stuff like that once you get into the season, not usually game 2 when your getting your everyday guys AB and just at start of getting in flow of season.

We really don't know Maddon thoughts on Schwarber against lefties, though I'm sure Schwarber going to get opportunities to bat against them to show he can be an effective everyday player..

Szczur most likely won't be on team when Baez comes off DL, so no point of getting him unnecessary starts. Would rather see how Schwarber fairs against lefties early on in season

Edit: just heard that LAStella may start over Schwarber on Tuesday

like I said, IF his plan is to sit Schwarber against lefties, like you said we don't know for sure maddons thoughts on that yet. maddon likes to use his entire bench, keep everyone involved. and I believe the thought is he might start LaStella over Soler on Monday against the righty. I doubt he would start LaStella on Tuesday against a lefty. if hes going to sit schwarber on Tuesday itll be for Szczur

I'm excited for the season to start, but does anyone else think starting interleague play the first series is kind of dumb?

That Cubs line up stands with any AL line up. It doesn't matter as they are plain scary.

Munenori Kawasaki was added to the 40 man. Not entirely sure it has any relevance just yet but if Baez is out for a bit longer he might show up for the NL series.

They set it retroactively, so he comes off April 11. He has been doing everything. They said they just wanted to take the cautious approach. I think its just a move if anyone else goes down. That is all I believe the Cubs think of him.

I don't personally believe it's a necessity. Everyone played interleague years ago and it was only on certain weekends, IIRC. But I get your point, beckdawg. If it was an opening series with the Sox, I would get considerably more hyped about it than this one.

It is a necessity since the Astros moved to the AL. With 15 teams in each league an interleague series is always happening. At least one. Prior to the balancing of teams you are right, it was selected weeks/weekends. And when that happened two NL teams would play each other.

So IOW it could still be on selected weekends.

No it cannot. There are 15 temas in each league. If you wanted to do it on selected weekends you'd have teams not playing every single day of the week. Not sure where you are struggling with this but apparently I am not able to explain it to you.

So there are 15 teams to play against 15 teams. That could never happen? Lulz.

I think opening up against a team the Cubs don't play very often is kinda cool.

You really need help. You stated that it is not a necessity to have IL play all the time and then state exactly why it is. With an odd number of teams in each league at least one team would either be off every single day of the week per league or you have IL play throughout the season. So yes, it's needed.

How can you get more hyped than Opening Day?

And, seriously, people actually get hyped about games against the Sox? I have never cared a bit.

That's dumb. If you like baseball you should care. I'm not talking exhibition games, I am talking about the ones that make up the 162 each team plays every season.

It does not matter that there is an odd number in each league. What matters is that there are the same number, who could play against each other. You also are missing the point that all teams don't have to play IL on IL weekends. It could happen over a span of 5 or 6 weekends. As it stands, IL play is bland, boring and made irrelevant by scheduling it all season long.

You keep missing the point. you have 15 teams. That means you can only play 7 games per calendar day which means one team per league is always off.

I still like IL play as do many folks based on attendance. If you eliminate IL play I am ok with it only if it comes with realignment.

I didn't miss the point at all. That's why I said to spread it out over select weekends. I also did not say anything about eliminating IL play. More Lulz.

What does this have to do with playing interleague against a team that many would have no feelings or care about? Agreed the Cubs lineup looks like it matches up well for IL play, but I'd rather see something like Cubs/Cards opening series or Cubs/White Sox for IL.

You inferred elimination of IL play.
And you can't spread it over selected weekends as has been shown to you over and over again.

I did not infer elimination of IL play. I essentially stated spreading it out over the entire season doesn't generate as much buzz as IL play should. Your math and scheduling skills aren't very good, if you think IL play has to be continual just because Houston moved to the AL.
