Funny game this baseball is...

Cubs offense have been going good and today their getting no hit through 4 by a pitcher who in 4 starts Avg less the 6 innings pitch per game with an ERA of 5.78..

Arrieta who been pitching well gives up 4 runs through 4

Soler is missing everything and still swinging at bad breaking pitches. He needs to adjust soon

Flat again. Why Soler led off was stupid......Maddon fixing something that isn't broke. One of the many things I don't like about the guy as a manager. Lots I do love, but this and making his clean up hitters try to be 20 SB per year guys ending in Longoria tearing a hammy/groin/breaking an ankle. But I wont rant on that.

The league has adjusted to Bryant after his initial success. Its on him now to re-adjust to what's working for pitchers to get him out. .400 to .280 in in a week's time. Granted its early and a matter of ~20 at bats, but hopefully his cold streak doesn't last much longer.

I'll cut Arrieta slack for now, he's been good recently.

This Germain guy has to go. I see we got him from the Mutts.

Still got one more dance with the Brewers before 4 in St. Louis. Finish up/bounce back tomorrow and then worry about the Cards.

You hate to say that this is a must win Sunday, but I think it is. Yes, they are all important, but you want to go into St Louis coming off of a win. The last thing the Cubs need is for St Louis to pick up 2-1/2 games in three days just before the Cubs come into town.

The Cubs will be throwing Wood, Hendricks, Lester, and Arrieta at them. They will be throwing Martinez, Cooney?, Lynn, and Lackey.

Gotta take at least one of the first two somehow before Lester and Arrieta pitch.

We're seriously talking about "must win" games before mid may? Literally 86% of the season is left. The Cards have only given up 57 runs in 23 games which is unsustainably low. That's a ridiculous 2.48 runs against per game. The best team last season in the NL was the nationals at 3.43 runs per game. The cubs haven't exactly been a slouch either in the pitching department at 3.77 runs against per game. In terms of scoring the cubs an cards are roughly equivalent at 96 in 23 games for the cards and 91 in 22 for the cubs.

I think the two teams are pretty similar. You can argue one side or another with ease but losing Wainwright is going to cause them to slump at some point. Maybe the cards have a better team but I think you'd be hard pressed to suggest they are going to run away with the division if the cubs don't strike now. Personally, I look at April as bonus. I expected a slower start than they got and expected a slower build up as the young players adjust to the league. You have 2 fairly dominant bull pen pieces last season coming back at some point. You also have perhaps some help out of Baez/Olt/Alcantara coming over the next few months. And lastly you have the ability to go out and trade for a difference maker as needed.

In other words, I'm not guaranteeing the cubs make the playoffs but think people need to relax a bit here. They are only 3.5 out of a team who's won 5 straight and lost arguably their most important player and the cubs haven't really played the soft underbelly of the NL yet outside the brewers. Most of the teams they have played have been .500 or better.

Um, beck dawg is correct. The Cubs have started well but calm down turbos. This team is so young that there are going to be ups and down. I doubt most thought we would be here. Ride it out. This season should be no expectations just excitement for what they do. I'll bet in 2 to 3 years this lineup is going to be nuts. They are only going to get better. Castro and rizzo are real. That's a hell of a start with the talents around them. I will say anyone ripping on Lester. The Brewers destroyed us on the base paths. Cubs do not teach to hold runners. This is why Castillo is important to me because his arm and accuracy is better then both are other catchers. That was very much looked over by theo and them

Not this year at all especially the way Castro has played. Don't let one game make you forget the games he has been phenomenal in

Castro has played better this year, but still has had more mental lapses in 1 month than you'd expect to see from your SS.

I haven't been disappointed in his play, but I haven't seen anything even approaching "phenomenal".

I don't see any changes right now. Castro has been playing at a high level this year and Russell is in his rookie season. Down the road this could change but as of right now I see little change. Shoot Bryant has been making errors and I haven't seen the pitchforks for him..... Meh thinks this has to do with like and dislike of a player vs any factual backings.

Soler lead off as a way for Maddon to perhaps help him learn to take some pitches, get back to understanding the zone, etc. It made sense. All that matters is they win today. Win today, they win the series.
