I'm curious to see what happens with Turner when he gets back to healthy. Certainly he'll be given every chance to make the staff. As for Wood, think people should relax. The Cards just destroy him for whatever reason. He's been decent the rest of the year. And sure ideally a championship team wants a better #4 than him but the cubs aren't quite that level yet anyways. Prior to tonight he had a 3.04/3.34 ERA/FIP with a 9.89/2.28 k/9 and bb/9. Let's also not forget he's the reasoning for one of those runs coming in.

Problem tonight was he was a bit wild to start and walked some batters. If he can give them 5-6 innings tonight even with that ugly 4 spot in the first you take it.

Other than that 1st inning Wood has been good. Not sure how he's done since then, was watching the Bulls game

It's just frustrating having inconsistencies in the rotation. Hendricks is my only real concern at this point. If the Cubs actually have a real shot at competing this season it would be nice to get that SP sooner rather than later though.

No one going to give up a top starter early any more with the addition of a 2nd WC team now..

Teams hanging close to .500 will wait til mid June, early July before they decide if their gonna go for it or cash in..

Doubt there many real bad teams with a solid top starter and if they have one, he probably having a bad year for part of reason their bad..

Last I heard Turner was moved to the 60 day. I haven't heard much after that. But he would be ideal.

IMO Jackson would go back into the rotation when they get some arms healthy if Hendricks can't turn it around.

Wood has been fine over all this year. Even this game he pulled it together after the 1st. Which speaks volume because he could have unraveled.

Do you guys think Jackson gets a shot back in the rotation if he continues to pitch well in the pen, or just leave him there and hope he has some value?

Where was this offense all weekend?

I thank after Grimm gets back it creates an opertunity. I would think Hendricks a few Iowa starts might help him work on some stuff.

I don't see it as a long term as Jackson is questionable after 1 time through. Right now he is doing strong jest getting 1-2 innings

Hendricks has been fine. He's simply pitched into bad sequencing. His left on base% is 60.3% this year after being 78.5% last year and roughly upper 70's all of his minor league career. This is reflective in his 5.23/3.27 ERA/FIP. If you look at his k/9 and bb/9 at 8.27/1.74 he's been better than last year. Largely his ERA comes from one start in Colorado. His games thus far have been the following

4-12 @ COL - 4.1 IP, 8 hits, 1 walk, 3 k's, 5 earned
4-18 SD - 6.0 IP, 3 hits, 0 walks, 8 k's, 2 earned
4-23 @PIT - 5.1 IP, 5 hits, 0 walks, 2 k's, 3 earned
4-29 PIT - 5.0 IP, 5 hits, 3 walks, 6 k's, 2 earned

His last 3 starts you're talking about a 3.86 ERA. Not "amazing" obviously but out of a #5 starter it's fine. Honestly the entire staff has been ok thus far. None has a FIP above 3.40. Not saying you don't eventually look to upgrade but this isn't a case of a gapping hole. You're far more likely to end up with worse pitching by screwing with that than to just let things play out.

Bases loaded nobody out? The Cubs of old would have blown this.

That strategy didn't work. .Using Strop in the 7th instead of 8th with the better hitters up..

Hopefully its no worse then a tie when this inning ends

We lead 5-0 and 8-4, we're looking at a very real possibility of losing the game AND burning the pen.

Wonderful

Cards couldn't score against Pittsburgh, and we come to town and score 8 and can't win.

Great way to start the series.
