10 down 79 more to go.
Should fatten up a bit on the Ws in next 13 games. .

6 against the Brewers
3 against pirates
4 against Cardinals

Should win at least 4/5 against brewers

Hopefully get 2 each from pirates and Cardinals

I don't disagree but the Pirates are a very good team. When I made my division picks to start the season I basically flipped a coin between the Cards and Pirates if Wainwright had been hurt then I'd have picked Pittsburgh. Now the Cubs are a little better than I thought but this is still a tough division. They do need to get on Milwaukee thoug that's a bad ball club.

Seeing this stings slightly. Not to say Garza was a bad player for the cubs but wish they would have started the rebuild sooner rather than trying to go for it. He'd be a nice piece to still have.

? Archer was part of the trade the cubs made to get Garza several years ago.
I couldn't read the tweet ..

going just off what you posted, thought you meant wish they still had garza. .

I get you mean archer now...

I never liked that deal to begin with for garza.

The team was sinking and hendry didn't do anything to help it besides adding garza, who imo didn't think was all that good to begin with...

Chris Archer's last four starts: 26 2/3 IP, 12 H, 5 BB, 36 Ks, 0.00 ERA. No patsies, either. Twice vs. Jays, once Red Sox, once Marlins.

Makes for a good debate for both pitchers but i think losing archer for garza was worse then losing cashner for rizzo . ..
Id personally prefer to have archer over cashner now, if i had to choose one.. that not saying i dont think cashner a good pitcher, i just think archer will have a better career between the two

Definitely, not even close. I think everyone would agree in hindsight we'd take back the Garza trade but do the Cashner trade again

I was in favor of the trade for Garza at the time. I was convinced that prospects never work out lol

Lol..

Hendry gave up too much (5 players ) for Garza....

Only good thing cubs got from that deal so far is Rosscup

Thinking about it now..
Cost the cubs all those players to end up with just a LH reliever 4 seasons later..lol [emoji51]

I don't really have a problem with the value they gave up. My problem is more that it was a short term play for a team that should have been playing the long term game. I don't really blame Hendry for it because he obviously was trying to save his job. In honesty, this is why you rarely see successful sports organizations let things get to this point. I always think of the Steelers in this this regard. They identify the right guy and stick with them. And that's how I view the Garza trade.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Illinois Fighting Illini
So the Cubs only got Rosscup? They may have given up Archer, but once they traded Garza they also got Ramirez and Edwards. These are key pitching pieces. Ramirez right now and Edwards by season's end. Didn't Grimm come in one if those trades, too?

Ir wasnt a bad trade. Garza was good for us and brought back a good package. Archer had control issues that he had to get under control. We got him for Derosa that people flipped over when Derosa was traded.

So we're approaching the point at which K rate starts becoming reliable for Bryant. He's presently at 19.0%/21.4%. His walk rate is only about 1/3 of the way to where it's "reliable." I would point out it's still possible pitchers haven't figured him out yet but if that 21-ish% reliable it will be huge for him. He's basically been as good as Rizzo has in Bryant's first 40 or so PAs. Bryant is at .333/.476/.455 and Rizzo is at .328/.481/.483. Bryant's at a 168 wRC+ where as Rizzo is 172. The logic to draw here is that if these numbers are indeed for real as they are starting to appear to be that Bryant has a very real shot at being a better player than Rizzo given his younger age and less experience.

In other words, those preseason projections of 3.5+ fWAR are starting seem fairly legit.
