To bad that they added 3 downgrades to Bote. Might as well leave Bote at 3B and let Bryant and Schwarber switch on LF and DH to keep them healthy. Horner is enough as a UI.

Who are the downgrades to Bote? Maybin who you said deserves to be playing everyday? Martinez who throughout his career, this season aside, has been a very good offensive player? And Bryant?

I have to agree. While Martinez didn't look good last night and all Maybin did was pinch run (SB). They need to get their shot. I mean these guys were brought in to face LH pitching which has been a big mystery to Cub hitters all year.....and that includes Bote who is hitting like .180 against them.
What they really should be concerned about is a bullpen with a penchant for walking people.

That was before they announced Bryant returning.
Like I said I would rather protect Bryant with the DH and Bote plays solid D at 3B. O wise all are pretty much on par with each other.
To me DH has 2 reasons to be used. Let a quality bat get a day off. Or a shitty defender but a +++ hitter get regular playing time.
They received none of this at the dead line. They got Martinez. Who is about equal to Bote but a shit ball glove. Maybin who can platoon with Heyward in RF and add a PR late game. And they got Souza back which made Martinez a pointless trade.
Like I said I get Catching with Caritini and DH Contreras or Bote at 3B and Bryant DH or Schwarber DH. Prefer protecting Bryant IMO.
But giving Martinez a 0-4 night. Laughable

Add to it Maybin has had a decent OBA career wise. Even last year he had a .364.
but moot as Rossy has made his decision with Happ leading off and Bryant back to hitting #2.
The main concern to me is keeping Bryant healthy vs giving pointless PA'S to a scrub ex-Card.

Martinez has a track record of being a very good hitter. He is better than bote unless bote gets much better than he's ever been
