Hammel has shown he got nothing in the tank in 2nd half after 5 innings. .
Hope they move him in off season

Yep, the minute he went 3-0 on Utley I figured he was toast. I wouldn't move him because he would be a real nice #5 but at #3, not so much.

I agree with Mattingly argument They need to make the rule to touch the base. You have replay now. Everyone must touch the base. Clear up all the bullshit

What point of holding onto him if he he gonna be garbage after June? He would be like Haren as a 5, pretty much an automatic lost. .

Looking ahead now as i think about it, after Lester and Arrieta Cubs are in trouble for rest of year starting pitching wise and if they do get into the 1 game WC and happen to win it with either Lester or Arrieta, whoever pitches that game will only get 1 start in next round.. So their going to need a win from either Hammel or Hendricks to have a chance to advance. .
If these guys are struggling to get 5 or 6 in now, be lucky to get 4 + come October. ..

So, not saying they should of emptied the farm but damn did they miss the boat on getting Haren and not someone better

Yep, when we sign another TOR guy in the offseason the 5th spot will be between CJ Edwards, Hendricks, Hammel, and Wada is what I'm thinking

First off, he's WAY better than Haren who no longer even qualifies as a major league pitcher. #2, the playoffs are a different animal. There's no pressure to preserve your bullpen as there is no tomorrow. You get 5 out of your starter and you get the pen ready...you have a 12 man staff, you use them. But this conversation really doesn't add up to a hill of beans as this Cub team as it stands right now...cannot beat the top starters in baseball. You can't always count on these guys throwing a shitload of pitches and basically taking themselves out of games....sometimes, you gotta beat them yourself and this team is just not doing that. The worst of it is that's pretty much all they will see if they get to the playoffs. A lot of fun beating up on the bottom feeders but it's a whole new game when you step up against the big boys.

Way better with the same results.. losses

Your right it would be great to get 5 out of that 3rd snd 4th starter in Playoffs, but not so great if their giving up a bunch of runs as they struggle to go 5..

Now im not expecting them to make a big playoff run this year as their just not built to do that yet..
But i stand by my original post as i hope Hammel gets traded in off season and they upgrade from him..

Giants, Mets, Nationals, and Pirates. What season have you been watching?

It's weird to think that the Cubs are better than the Bears. I know that's been the case before, but it's still strange.
