While this rough patch sucks, it is coming at a great time because it exposes the Cubs weaknesses and buys them time to address those needs. Not that Theo/Jed needed this to see those holes, but it definitely helps create some urgency on the subject

I think once players start returning from DL, Baez should see more time at SS.. Russell providing very little to nothing offensively, and you lose nothing defensively with Baez.

Russell hitting around .200 last 30 games...

Where he was back in May, he got hot for a week or so and then obviously cooled down again to where he at now.

Great point. I'll bet a few weeks ago that Theo may have thought he didnt need to do anything. Recent series indicates that this team is overhyped and just one of 6 really good teams

His OPS is actually quite good in the same stretch .714 in the last 30 games but and .778 in the last 7. As long as that trend continues he's still your primary SS.

Because he had a couple good games and hit a couple HRs

Yea Maddon probably sticks with him but IMO, I think Baez deserves to play everyday.
He can play SS for a couple games and 3B

Baez last 30 days .870 OPS, 126 OPS+, Last 14 .930 OPS, 139 OPS+, Last 7 1.045, 163 OPS+. He has earned the right to play everyday.

Makes sense. But we don't make that call. The guy who does wins regular season games at .615 clip since he's been here....I think he does a pretty good job at placing the right position player in the right spot at the right time.

Some of his choices out of the pen are a bit questionable but we don't know who's not available to pitch on a particular day and he may be forced to use stiffs like Peralta and Richard.

Some thoughts on what matters during the regular season:

1) Finding out what you suck at

2) Fixing what you suck at

3) Winning your division and avoiding a Wild Card play-in

4) Getting healthy in September

5) Playing your best baseball late in the season

Everything else is more or less noise, IMO.
