Watch him. It's a miracle when he can even get the ball out of the infield

His soft/med/hard contact rate is 11.4%/59.1%/29.5%. While that's not the biggest sample size to use, his 11.4% soft contact rate would be the 6th lowest in the majors right now. His hard contact rate is more middle of the pack but he's never bee touted as a power hitter. Lorenzo Cain who's a fairly similar hitter and also happens to play elite CF defense is at 18.4%/52.0%/29.6%. He was worth 6.6 fWAR last year.

Good news on the bullpen front, Joe Nathan looks like he's not far away from being ready. He's thrown 5 innings in AA giving up 1 run, 1 walk and 5 k's. Hopefully he's still got some left in the tank for major league hitters.

Not from what I see. The interesting thing is that with all I said about the Cubs in that initial post this minute point was your takeaway?

Nit picky? Perhaps, but you were lumping a 22 year old in with guys several years older than him and unlike them he actually was hitting strongly. I could have also argued for Russell. He's hitting .266/.346/.415 vs RHP this year but he's absolutely terrible against lefties(.130/.294/.275). My issue was more that you're calling young players shit when most really good 22 year olds don't even debut until September-ish in their age 22 year. It really shouldn't surprise anyone that they may not hit like an MVP candidate. You want to hate on Heyward and Cogs, fine by me. They have had their time to adjust but it seems kind of silly to go after two guys who aren't even 23 yet. I mean Rizzo at 23 hit .233/.323/.419 and couldn't hit lefties to save his life(.189/.282/.342). Look at the player he is now.

Raise your hand if you thought the Cubs would be 21 games over .500 and 8 games up by July 3rd? No? No one? Boy, this team was surely over rated.

And players can make changes and improve, but from what I have seen on Almora he is never going to be a good hitter and a reason he will likely sent down. I hope he works on things and comes back a better hitter. Get cloer to the plate and take a few walks would be a start

Well I probably would have put them at that. Most places were projecting them at around 100 wins to start the year and they are 102 win pace still. But then had you told me all the injuries they were gonna have on offense that might have made me shy away. I thought there was no way Contreras, Candelario and Almora all would be in the majors

From this point on it will be interesting to see if the Cubs or Cardinals have a better rest of the year

Can you imagine how many homer's heads would explode if it did happen. Afterall they think this team is the greatest of all time

That was one guy. Stop being dramatic.

You're saying he's never going to be a good hitter when he's yet to fail... that doesn't strike you as odd? I mean look everyone can have their own opinion. All I'm saying is there's nothing in the numbers that sticks out as "luck." His BABIP is .349. That's maybe 10-20 points high but it's not like he's got a .400+ BABIP. Additionally, I already brought up his contact rates. Having a low soft contact rate explains why his BABIP is elevated. BABIP is higher on hard hit balls in general. If anything, it's likely his batting average goes up because k rate is fairly predictive and it was 11.5% over 1623 PAs in the minors. Thus far he's at 20.3%.

You seem to want him to be something he's not. He's never going to walk a lot. He's going to put 80%+ of balls in play. He's literally the type of hitter the Royals built their team around. Last year their non-pitchers had a 6.3%/15.8% bb/k rate with a .269/.322/.413 triple slash and most of their players played great defense. So it's fairly obvious you can win with that type of player. In fact, I would make the argument that he's exactly the type of hitter you want the cubs to have. The cubs as a team have a 11.0% walk rate and a .253 batting average. They have no problem getting people on but it's very hard to walk your way to a run. The cubs don't have a lot of guys who are great at putting the ball into play. Right now they rely a lot on timely home runs.

I'm willing to bet on the Cubs. Surely you're willing to bet against them, no?

How much?

Met fan here. Wow we kicked the shit out of you guys 4 in a row! We`re not even playing good baseball right now either. Wouldnt be surprised if we get swept by the Marlins. That being said some of you guys are crazy thinking the Cubs arent going to do some damage in October. Sure the Mets seem to have your number but lets see how it plays out when we go to Wrigley. If the mets sweep you guys at home or even 2/3 you might have to be concerned that the mets might simply be a bad match up and could be a problem if they face off in the post season.

You're not a fan. You're a whiner, a complainer and a crybaby with a high troll potential. Even when the Cubs were winning all you had to say was negative crap. To make it even worse you repeat the same things over and over. On top of all that, you are a phony...the very guy you claimed to have blocked is now going back and forth with you in a flame session. Age doesn't always equate to knowledge....sometimes it just means you are old.

There is always a contingent of brainless homers like yourself that can't handle a dissenting opinion. If a person doesnt agree with you then they are a traitor to your cause.

You may not be aware of this but our country was formed on the premise of dissension. In fact, our forefathers, led by Thomas Jefferson, encouraged discourse and placed various protections into the constitution to shield the minority from the tyranny of the majority. How appropriate that on the day we celebrate our country, uneducated cretins like yourself rear their ugly and uneducated heads in suppressing contrary opinions. I'm sure you don't understand these concepts but you could look it up and gain a modicum of eduction, shit for brains.

Hope that helps.
