11 game road trip starts tonight. Rizzo is having back issues and Montero knee is banged up. Maddon says he is ok, but I would think they are careful. Facing a lefty tonight. Need to bring home a W. Stanton is really struggling for the Marlins.

Unfortunately Stanton is just now showing signs of coming out of his slump. He's slashed .360/.407/.520 in the last 7 days. Only 1 HR in that stretch though. The Cubs should be able to hit Chen but I'm not counting any chickens.

Yeah the Cubs need a win in the worst way. With St Louis idle it would drive them to an even 10 back. I can't believe we have to worry about the Cardinals but after that ass whipping nothing is impossible. I like this lineup. Im really liking Contreras and Almora. Both are contributing big time. Plus Lester need a good start after being knocked around a little by the Pirates. The Cubs just need to get back to the basics. Driving in runs and great pitching. The pitching you can always count on. Our bullpen got rocked yesterday. Im thinking we really need a LH reliever soon...

I want to see more of Concepcion as that lefty. He looked comfortable the other night. Not saying another lefty wouldn't be welcome, I'd just like to see if they have a guy already.

Yeah me too. We really need a LH reliever that can hold down the opponents and get the game to Strop and Rondon. But Chapman would sure look good in Cubs pinstripes huh? Even if they don't get him, Im not really worried. I think Concepccion could be the answer. Besides Wood, Grimm, and Cahill have been good in the middle innings, game yesterday notwithstanding.

But I do like this lineup. Contreras and Almora have been such pleasant surprises. Its good to see them both starting together.

Not sure if i'm reading this wrong but if you're suggesting you think Conception might be fine and they need someone else, Wood has been fantastic as the "other" LHP. Also FWIW, I still don't think Matusz as a starter makes much since. I feel like they are stretching him out just to get him more work to hopefully be ready for the stretch run. He's been dominant against lefties for his career.

I don't know if Concepcion will be OK. No one does at this point. He pitched what? One inning at the big league level so Im saying he could always use another LH reliever. What team couldn't? You can never have enough quality LH setup men. Wood has been great. I agree. But I would love to see Chapman or Miller in a Cubs uniform and like others have said in the Cubs Yankees thread, they are both going to be made available by the Yankees once they realize that this isn't their year. If Cashman has a brain he knows the Yankees are going to do jack in the AL so why not try and get something from another team? The Cubs have already publicly said that Baez, Contreras, or Almora are not on the table but they have so many good young guys in AAA and AA that a deal can be made. I don't think Matusz is going to be a starter either but I don't think that Warren will be coming back up to be the sixth starter and soon. The Cubs are the only team in MLB to only use 5 starters this year. Its only normal to assume that they are getting tired and need some rest especially considering the Cubs are going to be playing another month this year. :) MLB.com is saying Contreras and Carson Sands but I don't see the Cubs moving Contreras.

And Rizzo is 26 so you put Contreras behind the plate and were talking the youngest team in MLB.

Guess this is Maddon plan for Contreras this year..
More then just Catching

@GDubCub: Maddon likes idea of seeing hot-hitting Contreras at 1B. He'll also work in OF. "Almost like the program Schwarber was on, minus the 1B."

Has anyone seen Contreras play first base? Just curious. I like him there if he can field the position but he's hot (2HRs in 3 games) so you can't sit him. I forgot Lester only throws to Ross so catcher is out for tonight

Cubs need hats for bats or some rum for JoBu.
