I didn't have a question...

I wasn't referring to the Cubs in my original response to you.

Just saying in general its not always a good thing being in a lot of close games if you're losing most of them...

It depends on how their losing the majority of those games

That is all.....

You were asking who to blame in a 3-2 loss or whatever. I think the problem with this team isn't the bullpen. It's the fact they have a vast majority of 26 and under players who are seeing LOTS of playing time. The game has changed some in that more young players play but young players are inconsistent. Take Baez for example. He hit .310/.355/.483 in April. He then went and hit .219/.254/.297 in May. He hit .278/.333/.514 in June so far. A lot of the young guys splits look like that. That leads to games where you don't execute with men on. And if you don't execute with men on, you don't score and thus don't win.

So, it's really no surprise to me that they lose close games. Most major league teams aren't going to be as young on offense as the cubs and when they lose guys like Fowler and Montero to injury it just gets worse. How you fix that I'm not entirely sure because you're not going to trade for a long term piece and play them over some of the young talent. This is typically why you see teams jump up then have a regression when they have young players. The cubs are just odd in that regard. Most teams get the time to work young players in before they are a deep playoff team. Cubs seemingly don't.

That wasn't what you quoted in your response
But
That question was to TL in somewhat same but a different type of conversation and I was just using tonight game as an example...

I think we can categorize this one as a Maddon win. I honestly wish there was more of this done, it's fun and let's the manager...well, manage.

I watched Baez home run back and the guy completely missed his spot, but the swing is what Baez should watch over and over again. He still had the leg kick, but he was a lot more quiet up top. He does this with two strikes. This should show him that he needs to do this consistently because him getting "quiet" just hit a 420 plus foot home run to dead center.

Was digging through stats and noticed something I find interesting.

Russell vs RHP
2016 - .276/.347/.431
Career - .271/.334/.422

Russell vs LHP
2016 - .123/.278/.231
Career - .144/.251/.270

I'm not particularly worried about Russell long term but lefties crush him right now mean while he crushes righties. Reason I'm not particularly worried long term is Rizzo was basically the same sorta bad early in his career. However, last year he hit .294/.409/.472 vs LHP. Russell might not be as dramatically great vs LHP later in his career but I think he'll find something that will work for him. I'm curious if it wouldn't just make sense sitting Russell vs LHP a little. You want him to get more experience but at the same time Baez hits .274/.344/.487 on his career vs LHP. If you essentially platoon the two that's one really good SS. So far Maddon's only sat him vs Pomeranz May 11th which might not even have been a lefty thing. Rest of Russell's sits were against righties.

Also interesting the cubs in general crush lefties this year
1 David Ross .353/.489/.735 212 wRC+
2 Tim Federowicz .444/.500/.556 191 wRC+
3 Javier Baez .356/.431/.578 170 wRC+
4 Kris Bryant .262/.357/.583 144 wRC+
5 Dexter Fowler .312/.391/.494 139 wRC+
6 Ben Zobrist .297/.402/.432 126 wRC+
7 Matt Szczur .240/.296/.560 123 wRC+
8 Anthony Rizzo .205/.347/.446 117 wRC+
9 Tommy La Stella .250/.400/.250 94 wRC+
10 Jason Heyward .247/.341/.351 92 wRC+
11 Jorge Soler .250/.339/.346 90 wRC+
12 Albert Almora .200/.250/.333 53 wRC+
13 Addison Russell .123/.278/.231 47 wRC+
14 Miguel Montero .143/.217/.143 0 wRC+

From the front view on MLB.com , it looks like he picked his foot up and put it right back down, which would also quiet his upper body movements a bit.

Hendricks really needs to give them a good 6 innings today and the bats need to jump on Reed early. I'm a little worried about fatigue in the position players after last night as well.

9 teams. It was great them getting shut out by a guy with a 5.50 ERA against one of the best pitchers in baseball.

I used to play 10 team parlays in college football, you could put 2 dollars on it and I think the pay out was 10 Gs. There will always be that one game that fucks you and ruins it for you. I found it was hard enough winning a 4 or 5 game parlay let alone 10. Wouldn't have expected that game to be your loser doe.
