They are going to start shifting Contreras up the middle. A ton of his balls have gone there.

What a bunch of **** suckers! That was intentional at Bryant.

Yeah no shit. I expect some retaliation and soon. You can't throw are our best player and not be dealt with. It sucks that they guy who threw the ball will likely not see the batters box. Pussy...

Just what the doctor ordered. A 3-game sweep of the Reds.

LaStella should be back with the Cub in the next day or two unless they wait until after the Mets series. Soler is traveling with the team to New York. Really being careful with his hammy.

Soler=> Almora
LaStella => Cog

I'm guessing LF: Contreras, CF Heyward, RF Soler until Fowler gets back.

Just admit I was right

Yeah, somehow it's bad that the Cubs "pile on runs" because you know, piling on runs is so terrible. I mean, it doesn't improve your win probability at all to do that.

The Cubs now have 27 wins of 5+ runs while having only 26 losses. If you want to harp on one run losses as if those are some indicator of the Cubs true ability (hint: it is not) then I don't know what to tell you. There is nothing that points to one-run one game record as being predictive at all of post-season success.

The kid should have a long talk with Heywood, if they start shifting him second base should be wide open.

I'm curious to hear what people's line up would be assuming everyone is healthy. Obviously there's some match up questions in there as you might not start various people vs various handed pitching but just in a general sense who'd be your starting 8? Is this the "best" configuration?

C - Ross/Montero/Contreras depending on who's pitching
1B - Rizzo
2B - Zobrist
SS - Russell
3B - Baez
LF - Bryant
CF - Fowler
RF - Heyward

Reason I ask is I was thinking about how you would go about adding another bat to the team. I feel like they need a vet bat to help with some of the inconsistency you have with the young guys. Reddick is a name that's come up but I'm honestly thinking the cubs might need another infielder. La Stella has been good this year but he's not exactly a bastion of health and if Baez is going to see a starting role it limits your flexibility there. I could also see the argument for when Soler is healthy playing him in LF with Baez as your double switch guy mid game which would limit some of that pain but I feel like another infielder wouldn't hurt.

I think they should send Contreras down once Solar gets healthy. He can come up later in the in year right before the playoff thresh hold. Then next season hold him down for ~2 months so that his clock wont officially start till he is 26. Not popular, but best long term for the franchise.

I also think people are not giving Szczur enough credit. He is a very versatile offensive player. He strikes out less than Baez and he has a higher BA/OBP/SLG. I would like to see him get more starts to see if his numbers go up or down with more playing time.

I also think La Stella should be an option. His defense is not very good, he can stay on the field for shit, but he does not strike out much and he carries a very high OBP.

It should be interesting to see who goes down when Fowler, La Stella, and Solar all come back.

I honestly don't know who they will keep up and who will go down. They have a lot of talent.

My guess is Almora and Szczur to go down and Coghlan to go away. I don't think Contreras is going anywhere with Montero declining as fast as he seems to be.

Szczur is out of options and wouldn't clear waivers.

I wasn't sure when I posted that. Some tough decisions to be made for sure. I still would be surprised if Contreras goes down.

He is going no where. He was brought up to learn. He was not in the same situation Almora and Schwarber was their first looks.

It should be Cog as he has not done anything to prove he deserves a spot. With Contreras and Soler you don't want to take away playing time from either. Contreras from a development viewpoint. Soler from a trade value viewpoint. You are not going to lessen either role.

Ideally they trade Soler and activate Fowler at the same time

Szczur isnt going anywhere. He has been terrific in the 5 OF, pinch hitter role. Almora is not ready with the bat and you can see it.

Also, when are people going to realize Baez does not strike out at a big rate this year. He is at 21.8%. Szczur is 20.9%, Fowler is 21% range and so is a bunch of Cubs. Russell is almost 26%. He still has to walk more, but one thing at a time. The guy plays almost every freaking position and has had an real good month with the bat.

Contreras isn't going back down. Very versatile player. Not just a C. Almora goes down. Coghlan gets put on 15 day DL with a mystery injury, giving them a couple of weeks to figure out what to do with Szczur.

Can he get a few walks before we anoint him as being able to play every position at once?
