Vitters wasn't really the worst IMO. The pick that bothers me the most during that period was Hayden Simpson. He wasn't a consensus pick and it surprised many. And to make matters worse, the Sox took Sale 3 picks before him. Aaron Sanchez went 34th overall . Syndergaard went 38th. Tajuan Walker went 43rd.

That was a money move. He was taken completely because of money. It was also when Lincecum was big, so I guess they thought he was the best chance for the little money. That was when the Cubs were spending no money on the draft. That was a complete ownership problem.

I have no doubt that is the case. But just wish the would have thrown the money at a different pitcher. I'd have to go back and look but I would be willing to bet that Walker, Syndergaard and Sanchez probably got similar bonuses given where they were drafted.

Hayden got 1,060,000 which was the third lowest for the first round signings. Walker, Syndergaard, and Sanchez were all supplemental picks and were actually signed cheaply compared to most of the picks around them. I do know that the Blue Jays spent a ton in that draft.

It was like 800,000, 600,000, and 775,000.

It was a terrible draft for the Cubs though. Szczur was the only pick worth anything. Reggie Golden was signed for his raw tools. I would rather forget that draft. lol

That was brutal, right on the knee. Addison Russell is really doing incredibly well in that 5 hole, who would have expected these RBI's.
