The cards are going to get into the bullpen soon. Arrieta's thrown 81 in roughly 4 innings. I'd like to see some more runs as the bullpen can be pretty iffy at times

Gotta be frustrating as a hitter when your making solid contact and hitting balls in what would normally be holes, only to have a shift used against you and your hitting balls right at someone playing a deep infield

Might have been two had Castro not blown that throw.

No way they get two, bad throw because they should have got one. It didnt look like they had a chance at two.

Cubs tie it at least. Ball was hit pretty hard besides Valbuena

Sadly, I don't have much faith in the cubs to pull this one out. Their bullpen is often spotty and I'm not sure they can find another run before the bullpen gets ugly. That said, if they make it through this inning, Rizzo will be up and maybe he can knock one out.

Core problem with this team is the drop off after Rizzo in the line up. Castro is a poor excuse for a clean up hitter. Rent-a-reck has no clue how to put together a line up with the tools he was given.

The way I look at todays line up was Boni and Valbuena looked good with Rizzo hitting 3. But they pitched around Rizzo 3 BB. Castro 0-6 and not a power threat.

A simple change would flip Rizzo and Castro. Protect Castro's bat with Rizzo. It extends the line up 1-4 that way vs 1-3 then a drop off.

Going past it they need Schierholtz hitting soon. Castillo would be my 5 hitter right now with his .248 BA with Schierholtz hitting 6th. Olt and Lake hitting 7-8.

That is until either Lake or Olt can prove to be at least .275 hitters. They can both impact a game but the dry spells they go through kill innings.

They need more talent but Ricky is not helping with his line up builds. The team has proven that it can blow up a staff.

I'm not sure there is a "good" line up to choose from. It's the best of bad choices. Castro in the 4 hole is just an example of this. Ideally, it gets better when Baez or Bryant gets the call up. Until then or until Olt starts hitting more the 4 hole is going to be pretty ugly.

Go by OPS. Not BA
....................Total......May
Rizzo............ .860......853
Castro....... ....771......691
Valbuena...... .738......783
Bonifacio...... .736......607
Olt.............. .726......994
Lake..............724.....896
Castillo..........717.....559
Kalish............685.....667
Schierholtz....506......532

Trends:
Rizzo constant
Olt improvement
Lake improvement
Valbuena same
Bonifacio lower
Castro lower
Castillo lower
Kalish same
Schierholtz same.

So just going with what has been working and going with some trends got a quick one:

1: Bonifacio May OBA .304
2: Kalish May OBA .323
3: Rizzo May OBA .361/May SLG .478
4: Olt May SLG .633
5: Lake May SLG .571
6: Valbuena May SLG .474
7: Castro May OBA .291
8: Castillo May OBA .267

Right now Rizzo is the 3rd best slg on the team but the top OBA. He needs to hit #3.
Olt and Lake have has the best SLG this month. They need to exploit it.

Kalish has been solid at OBA and can handle RF.

Valbuena has put up a .310 OBA this month and a .474 SLG. His SLG holds more value.

Castro has been cold this month. He is not a #4 hitter at all and his .220/.291/.400 shows it.
