Ballgame! Chapman needs to get over this coming in not to start the inning BS. In the playoffs, we may need him to get 5 outs.

Make of this what you will but Hendricks' K rate is up and walk rate is down since the start of the second half. He threw 98.2 innings in the first half with a k/9/bb/9 of 7.84/2.46. In the second half over 41.1 innings his k/9/bb/9 is 8.27/1.74. The K rate seems largely irrelevant as its basically the same. However, his walk rate this year has actually been elevated from his career marks(2.09). So, to see it drop down below 2 is nice and one could suggest that he will actually be better in the second half than he was the first. That is to say his performance might match the actual numbers because while he did have a 2.55 ERA in the first half, his FIP and xFIP were 3.42/3.80. Part of that has to do with his walk rate being elevated.

Im tired of talking about Hendricks. Lets talk about Hammel. The forgotten soul

Christopher Kamka @ckamka

Jason Hammel 2016
0.95 ERA, 38.0 IP, 0.895 WHIP post All-Star break (6 starts)
1.79 ERA, 70.1 IP, 0.995 WHIP at Wrigley (12 starts)#Cubs

Hammel has pitched well. Most people will point to his 2nd half struggles the past couple of years but to me the more telling thing is his numbers since becoming a cub in 2014. We're talking 8.28/2.36 k/9/bb/9, 3.37/3.88 ERA/FIP over 481.1 IP or 83 starts. Think you can fairly safely argue that sort of production is at least #3ish starter on most teams. That being said, I don't think you take him over Hendricks in a 4 man playoff rotation. Hammel probably has more value out of the bull pen throwing 92(probably higher as a reliever) than Hendricks. I suppose you could argue Hammel and Hendricks rather than Lackey given he's arguably been the cubs worst starter. However, given his playoff experience and seemingly what he was brought in for not sure that Maddon/FO would want him in the bullpen.

This is going to be one of the biggest things to watch in the next 5 weeks. Lackey is a playoff pitcher, he was brought in to pitch a game 3 of a 7 game playoff series and while it may end up being game 4 I can't see him not being on the playoff rotation unless he's bad over the next few weeks. It's going to be one of the toughest decisions Maddon has to make. Remember when people thought the Cubs didn't have anywhere near as good a rotation as the other contenders? The Mets won't make the playoffs, the Giants sit in the WC slot with nowhere near as good a rotation and only Washington comes close but I'd still take our guys. Baseball is a funny game.

Proving once again you'll never understand the difference between intelligent baseball thoughts and ceaselessly acrid nitpicking in the midst of a season to enjoy.

Lackey is the best strike out guy in the rotation. I would put him in the pen if it started today.

But there is baseball to play and much can happen up until that point.

Why not? Both were situations that called for your shutdown guy plus it netted two wins. You can't play tomorrow's game today. Win today and worry about tomorrow...........tomorrow.

I'm happy to win two -- but man, it just seems risky to pitch a closer twice in the same day? I realize he's not throwing a lot of pitches, but it just doesn't seem like a good idea. Oh well, I guess we can run him in to the ground considering he's a rental.

Cause he has a number of reliever that cant pitch an inning without blowing the lead. Have you seen the disgust on his face? Any other manager would have gone balistic with them. My attitude is that if you cant pitch one fucking inning without it going to hell then I dont care if you are cut

He's been known to stand on the wall and dance. The "Pop Up" dance.

Yeah, I know.

My question had more to do with "Why the heck do we need to act like little children and nickname a fucking wall just so the cubs have one more reason to be the butt of jokes?"

Maybe that's how I should have worded it.

Nicknames, and catchy little phrases and sayings, and Bryant/Rizzo '16 Tshirts are embarrassing.
