Think I would prefer Amaya catching sides and BP. Let Caratini catch every day. He doesn't play every day so he should be fresh for a extended run.

But if anything happens Amaya is a strong D skilled catcher and having that exposure will benefit him going into Tenn.

Just shit can Maples off the 40. It is time on him.
I’m pretty sure there’s about 0% chance Amaya is called up. In mentioning non 40 man roster options they probably meant veterans that are free agents or possibly pereda

I agree with you. But it was in the discussion. This injury will dictate. 1-2 weeks no big deal. Longer than that requires a better solution.

I have no idea what this means.

Are you suggesting Bryant and Baez should not be in the lineup?
Would you rather have Taylor davis or Kyle Schwarber in the lineup.

Wait, dont answer that, I think I already know the answer.

Good news

Adbert Alzolay came off the injured list today and threw 47 pitches, 25 for strikes, over 2.1 innings. His velocity was reportedly the same 94-97 mph that he was throwing earlier this season. Alzolay gave up one run on one hit and two walks. He struck out three.

I think that he is been too far away from catching to be a everyday solution.

That said they would be smart to let him take part in catching activities outside of live action. Catching depth is lacking in AAA-AA. Amaya is the next system catcher that his MLB potential.

With the addition of Nicholas and Almora hitting decently Post ASG it does open up opertunites. Contreras was hitting around .200 after the ASG. Caratini was not much better. There was a reason why Joe moved him down pre-injury

There’s probably a reason Maldonado has had a fairly long MLB career and Davis is 29 and still in the minors. Teams clearly see value in Maldonado. Our fans really overvalue offense from a back up catcher and apparently don’t see any value in defense and the comfort zone a good backstop can give a pitching staff. In Maldonado’s couple games I saw him block a few pitches our other two guys never do. Contreras is embarrassingly bad keeping the ball in front of him and I think it effects how our pitchers attack hitters with men on 3rd.
I dont over value a stick. They both have below average sticks. Taylor Davis is still playing professional ball because of his defense and ability to work with a staff. Neither are good options on the bench to hit. The difference between Maldanado and Davis isnt this huge gap. Its quite small and really wont matter. Victor will catch the majority. Willy get his MRI on Monday.

I think I would've swapped Kemp and Heyward.

Maldonado sucked. He didnt throw out anyone while here, his bat was a 0 and if he framed a few more strikes than other guys, woopity doo.
At least Davis doesnt suck as hard ad Maldonado at batting. He aint great but is at least better.
We should be fine.
Davis is not better than Maldonado not by a long shot
if he was the Cubs would not have traded for Maldonado
Davis is not a hitter and is not better defensively. He has no business in mlb

I posted a comment about our infielders pulling Rizzo off the bag and you’re posting about Schwarber and Taylor Davis. I have no fucking idea what you’re talking about

Maldonado is one of the top framers in MLB. His D has kept him employed in spite of no bat. The WS favorites, who had him last year, reacquired him for his D.

Taylor Davis is 29 and in the minors.

There is a world of difference.

First game after trade back to Houston, Maldonado homers for Houston.

Second game in action, he catches a combined no hitter from 4 different pitchers in one game.

Man did not want to come here in the off season, he was traded for even though they knew he did not want to be here sitting on the bench.

.........or were you spewing about something else?

Fucking Caratini. Seems like he's always up at big times and fails miserably.
