And on Rizzo. .403 OBA. That is a lead off hitters wet dream.
It led to solo HRs when he hit them, and the worst baserunner ever choking up and getting a single. Takes three more hits to get him in. Rizzo is far more valuable further down in the order. On Schwarber. Pre ASG .777 OPS. post .919. getting him out of the lead off was the right choice.
But Rizzo is a natural fighter at the plate and will choke up with 2 strikes. He has a natural lead off approach at the plate. That is why he excelled at it. It is what he is meant to do.

A leadoff man doesn’t solve the lack of fundamental baseball. Good teams move guys from second to third and drive them in. Cubs never move runners along because everyone thinks they need to be the guy instead of having faith in their teammates. They need a real lead off. That is all it takes. The blow up is not a thing.
Heyward produces in the 6 hole.
Schwarber has been far better out of the lead off.
Every issue steams from Joe pushing guys into failed roles.
The biggest core issue this team needs is a new manager. They do not need this musical chairs method of management. Then Theo and Jed need to attain a line up staple at lead off. Even if it means trading Bryant for Betts and extending him after.
