Lackey basically sucks tonight...

Wonder how much of it is having Contreras behind plate
We will know if he doesn't catch Lackey next start ?

He is missing a little bit. Contreras isnt framing well. They werent on the same page for some of that inning. Lackey knew what he was getting.

Also seems like a lot of pitches in the dirt.

I think Contreras (who will obviously learn) needs to be better about how quickly he's setting up in/out. Right now, the Cards are basically sitting on anything middle third when he doesn't move and adjusting when he does move.

LOL. Pitch framing. Lackey isn't struggling tonight because Contreras can't frame pitches. He'sstruggling because he's missing spots. This isn't a young Weli Castillo behind the plate.

I'm blown away by the Cubs inability to hit simple sacrifice fly balls. If there is some stat for that I suspect they are one of the worst in baseball

Cubs up 12.5 games on Cardinals. You're blown away by some really bizarre stuff.

Has nothing to do with being 12 games up. BUt has everything to do with not being able to execute a simple fundamental. Rizzo, for as great as he has been, is trying to pull a sweeping curve ball a mile off the plate when all he had to do was make contact and get the ball into the air.

I cant remember a single sacrifice fly that scored a run this year. That's not me expecting too much just a simple thing they should have learned in the minors

Pitcher on deck and Almora first pitch swinging after Russell goes down on three pitches? Not a fan.

I can remember a lot plus some safety squeezes and some squeezes and some ground outs.

Me too, but where was the simple ability to hit a freaking fly ball? It's a legitimate criticism.

It's the fault of the hitting coach. He should be all over their asses about executing this yet they continue to drive outside pitches in these situations
