My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Illinois Fighting Illini
Theo and Jed did let teams know he would be available last off season. I for one am glad they did not pull the trigger yet. Russell is a few months out and Baez is hit or miss right now.

You trade when forced to not before.

Also Jed said that they want Bryant at 3B. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cub...cast-jed-hoyer-hopes-kris-bryant-sticks-at-3b
Source is Olney. How is it he is a Cubs insider? There have been others who reported the exact opposite regarding Castro being on the block.

The Cubs haven't emphasized "keeping runners close"? From a pitching perspective, its common sense. Even my 13u team understood how to do it. It's a basic of baseball.

I understand that but do you remember last year convos? Cubs pitchers were one of the worst at holding baserunners. Our catcher didnt throw out a runner for the first 23 or so. That not on a catcher and especially not a catcher with an arm like Castillo. The Cubs dont preach this. They cant. No way that happens if they were working on it. Just my opinion.

Baez and Russell are both better athletes than Castro. :dunno:

No, they are not. Baez has great instincts but athletic wise is around the same as Castro. Castro has great range but lacks instincts. Russell is not a great athlete. He is a good athlete that has good range but not great. They are all around the same athletic ability. They all run about the same speed. If you want to know the best athlete in the whole Cubs org, thats either Jacob Hanneman or Junior Lake. Athletic wise Junior Lake is a freak. Hanneman has the athletic ability of Jacoby Ellsbury. Those are the best athletes.

Matt Szczur should probably be in this conversation too. Besides being a decent baseball player he played wide receiver, running back, wildcat QB and was a return specialist for Villanova.

I agree, I almost threw him in there but Hanneman got so much hype over his athletic ability. Szczur is a great athlete with balls to the wall attitude. I always thought he would be a major leaguer for a long time. Maybe not start but will keep himself around. He ever gets 15 homer power then he could def. start in this league.

What if he breaks a leg or gets locked up during another one of his DR escapades? You never know. If something solid was on the table, I would have preferred to take it.

Earth could blow up also....

The Cubs are better off right now with Russell and Baez given the time to finish off their developments. Castro's value is pretty much set now. Not much is going to change it.

Breaks a leg? Gets arrested in the DR? He moved or is in the process of moving his family out of there. Let's not paint castro as some thug. It's a different world. I watched this documentary on big papi. He was talking how the film crew came knocking on his door at a certain time. He was like bro you were lucky I didn't pull my gun on you for showing up early. This is the DR. You can never be sure. Castro put himself in a position he shouldn't have been. in no way was involved in either incidents. Out there if you are famous. They either try to kidnap you or a family member or straight up kill you. It's a tough place

I wouldn't go too far with these guys. They are all solid depth players. Coghlan is also a great 4th OF. But I see none of them with 30 HR power. That IMO is a need. All of the rest of them would fall into the role that Fowler is giving right now. OBA and adding a speed element.

I like speed and all but there is no astro turf to exploit it which lessened it's importance. There was a reason why baseball shifted from speed to power. Yes PED's were part of it but parks were rebuilt going back to grass. That changed the game more than anything.

So was Babe Ruth the best athlete on the team?

Lol those morons are ready to burn down the trailer park already?

What an "epic rotation" they've got this year!

it's not the rotation...it's the rest that's atrocious

Babe changed the game in his era. You have to be a great player to pull something like that off. So yes that would define him.

I think the definition of what the "best athlete" means would help. Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders, Brian Jordan, Dave Winfield, Shark, would all be the best athletes yet neither could play SS

"Best player" does not equal "best athlete". FI, Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio. In 1941 Ted hit .406 and Joe hit in 56 straight games. Williams was a RF. DiMaggio was a CF. Translation...DiMaggio was a better athlete. Best athletes usually play up the middle.
