I think the definition of what the "best athlete" means would help. Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders, Brian Jordan, Dave Winfield, Shark, would all be the best athletes yet neither could play SS
Quite a few right-handed throwing CF you see in the pros played SS in high school.

Ah, but in HS they were not necessarily the best athlete then. I just think it needs more definition personally.

Not sure where you are lost, but let's give you an example. By far the best player at my HS was Brent Bowers. He played CF and had cups of coffee in the bigs.
I'm not the one who is lost. My statement ("quite a few") wasn't all inclusive in the first place. There are always exceptions. Either way, CF is up the middle, where the best athletes usually play.

Well up the middle is different then SS. If that changed and was admitted to needing to be expanded I can see it.

I saw where SilenceS admitted to being wrong and agreed with your expansion. My argument was always against the original premise.

Yep. I'd reword that a little, though. Up the middle are the best athletes on the team. SS/2B/CF.

"Best player" does not equal "best athlete". FI, Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio. In 1941 Ted hit .406 and Joe hit in 56 straight games. Williams was a RF. DiMaggio was a CF. Translation...DiMaggio was a better athlete. Best athletes usually play up the middle.

Well up the middle is different then SS. If that changed and was admitted to needing to be expanded I can see it.

Brett, shouldn't you be over in the Sox game thread talking about how your team is getting swept? :smug2:

I'm multitalented not only multiple sections but multiple sites

But perhaps your comment should be moved to the smack talk thread.

There is no smacktalk thread here. All the more reason for you not stay here? :dunno:

It's early. The Sox will start to turn it around. The team is good enough, just as Pittsburgh's team is, and they were swept by the Reds.

Cubs need to take care of some business and fatten up on Colorado and Milwaukee because they have some tough games ahead in the month of April and early May.

It will also be interesting to see if the Cubs can find an answer for their dreadful performances against Pittsburgh.

I'm looking to the bats awaken for the Cubs. This series should go a long way toward that.

I'm looking for them to start to get a settle for the line-up since we are only two games in. Would like to know who is going to emerge as the question marks like Olt, Alcantara, La Stella, and even Fowler?

We've been waiting for the bats for 5 years now it seems, but with the kids, it is going to be a roller coaster ride of a season.

Of course, roller coaster rides can be fun for some people I guess......so. :dunno:

I'm thinking the cold weather had a little to do with that. The Cards didn't exactly light up the hit board either. I was impressed with the little bit of small ball the Cubs played at the right time. Personally, I think the Cubs are going to score a ton of runs this year. :yep:
