That's something I won't miss. Just once I would've liked him to say something like "This is bullshit. I've never coached a more overrated group of players in all of my long career. We choked down the stretch...AGAIN...and I tried my best but all I could do is manage the guys Theo dumped on me. Kimbrel was a horrible signing...and you saw it today. I'm sick and tired of making excuses every damn day for this clown show. Anytime a team wins a world series you could say it was an anomaly...cuz it doesn't happen very often for any team. The 2016 team won 103 games in reg season and imo earned that world series. The problem is trying to keep that team going as constructed basically. There was never any reloading as good teams do...just filling holes. Fowler left and we didn't replace him. Guys regressed and we didn't replace them. We just tried to keep 2016 going year after year. The free agents we brought in for the most part were garbage. Castellanos is the only exception. Darvish may turn out to be a good acquisition....but others like Morrow and pretty much every bullpen dope we brought in basically sucked. Theo let Daniel Murphy go in lieu of Doug Descalso for example....and Murphy is hitting over 100 points higher. He brought in lame schleps like Tony Kemp...today's "heroics" not withstanding the guy is hitting under .200. This years team was an embarrassment and failure...but it shouldn't take away from 2016.

They were talking on the Score tonight about how you just can't touch this precious "core" of Baez, Contreras, Rizzo and Bryant...and I'm thinking with half your regular lineup supposedly "untouchable" why the hell is 3rd place in the division the best they could do? Maybe...just maybe...this "core" is incredibly overrated. If they were that damn good we wouldn't be in 3rd friggin place. Are the 4 other guys in the regular lineup that damn bad that it brings this fantastic "core" down to this level of being just above a .500 team? Castellanos is part of those "other" guys as well and during his time as part of the lineup the team still didn't do squat...which actually makes this precious "core" look even worse. Schwarber is part of the "others" outside the "core" and he leads the team in home runs for gawds sake. Then you have Heyward who leveled out to his usual low average...and then guys like Almora, Bote, Russell, Zobrist , Caratini and Happ interchanged to create the daily lineup.

How come this special "core" four...and you add Castellanos and Schwarber to that lineup could only muster 3rd place in the division? Maybe it's becuz this special "core" just isn't as damn good as everyone wants to think they are. We have an emotional attachment to this "core" and it runs deep in the media and fan base....despite the numbers and the standings. It's time to get real about this team. You have the "core" 4 plus Castellanos and Schwarber. That's 6 guys in your regular lineup who are supposed to be really good. The only thing is...they just aren't. Or else they wouldn't be a 3rd place friggin team.
