Cubs lead 4-0. They loaded the bases in the first and Kris Bryant walked for an RBI. Baez came up behind him and walked for an RBI. That at bat by Baez showed his better approach. Sac fly by Ross. Then, next inning Addison Russell hit a dinger.

Lets put this game away. DBacks are a sneaky good team. Pitching isn't good, but the offense doesn't quit.

Just another reason why Kris Bryant is gonna be a huge star. 10 run lead, two outs, nobody on...slow chop to third and he hustles it out for a hit.

This offense is ridiculous today. Maybe it's a sign and will get back on track for the remainder.

12-2 in the fifth. Lester at 91 through 5, wouldn't mind him getting the rest of the day off and getting someone like Wada some work.

Notable offense

Russell - 2HR, 3 RBI
Rizzo - Grand Slam
Baez - 3-3 with HR+ walk

Baez at third. Herrera at second. I guess giving Bryant some rest which is great this late in the season.

I've been berating the home plate umpires all year but today whoever it is behind the plate...is actually calling a real good game. He's not giving strikes away on pitches 3 inches off the plate which is probably why there are so many walks.

Nice win today Cubbies. With Arrieta pitching tomorrow, it should be another easy win.

I was impressed by Godley's stuff today...ok, he was wild but it doesn't look like that's the norm for him. I also saw that he was one of the kids the Cubs traded to AZ for Montero. Good looking young pitcher...wish the Cubs still had him.

lets see.
Baez 3 for 3. now hitting .333. I see his plan 0 for 6 run then a implosion day.
Russell 2 HR's 3 RBI. Damn good looking MI IMO. Not many team can say their MI just hit 3 HR's and 6 RBI's in 1 game.

I don't Montero holds way more value to a young team. Cubs by no means are hurting for cash where they can not spend on a quality starter.

Not really impressed with Hunter to be honest. He seems to be prone to getting worked over. Lester 91 pitches to get through 5 innings.

Little things glossed over by a O explosion. A TOR on the other side would exploit this.

Good win but I still see room for improvement. Lester needs to get back on track to where he was last month.

Thinking tomorrow against lefty we see Bryant in LF, Jackson in RF, Castro at 2B, and Baez at 3B...

Who we rooting for to sweep, pirates or cards ?

Im thinking Cards only cause i think the cubs have easier chance at catching pirates then cards..

They won't catch the Cards....St. Louis would have to fall off the map for that to happen. They might catch the Pirates but all that gives you is home field for the play-in game. Which brings up the fact that Jake almost has to pitch that game given Lester's inability to hold runners...the league is onto him now. They're gonna run on him every game until he figures out how to throw over to first....can't believe I'm even saying that. The guy's been pitching for probably 15 years or so and still can't hold a runner.

Pit up 4-0. If they did sweep it would put them 3.5 games back. Pick your poison on a 1 game then.

As much as I like to see the Cards lose, it will be best to see the Bucs lose, imo. Cubs need to get the game to Wrigley against the Bucs, and will have a much better chance at beating the Cards in a series.

It's awesome seeing the Cubs having injuries, but yet, having so many players to keep the lineup going. Give Maddon more tools in Sept and watch him work his magic, imo.

What's even worse is that he is a lefty that can't hold a runner. He just has to step in that direction. I understand that this isn't high school and that runners aren't easily fooled by lefties but still, he can see his target.

This is more of a mental problem with him than a physical one.

Baez looked like champion. 3 two strike hits is night and day from what he was. I will say flat out. I will root for him over anyone else because of the struggles he went through. I respect the **** out of people that deal with family and still succeed. I believe the Cubs hired Manny specifically for Baez. I hope the Cubs keep him because I believe he will be something whether on the Cubs or not and I think the Cubs believe it as well.

I appreciate you posting this, but I said this last year, and was ridiculed for it. Welcome to CCS!
