Really nice to get that sweep with this difficult schedule the rest of the month

Here comes the two weeks that was for the Cubbies....11 game road trip with a key doubleheader on the 14th vs Pittsburgh. A bad Philly team fills a 4 day gap between the Cards and the Pirates but I think we all remember what happened when they visited here. Washington is coming strong but if the Cubs go 6-5 here, they still should be in good shape.

If the Cubs finish, lets say at a putrid 10-17 the rest of the way, Washington would have to go 18-9 to catch the Cubs.

Yes the Schedule gets tight coming up, but so does it for the Nationals too as they face the Mets in a three game series, and end the year against them in New York. Washington also has to square off against the Orioles.

It's kind of funny that I am groomed to think that we have to play these teams and it is going to be tough, but the way they have played and where they are heading, maybe I should start thinking that these other teams have to play the Cubs too?

I look at it this way, if they cant beat the Cardinals and Pirates now then what difference does it make if they make playoffs to lose against them then too..

Cubs need to make a statement, especially against the Cardinals in these last head to head that if they meet up in NLDS it not gonna be easy for the Cardinals. ..

Beating them now doesn't mean we will beat them in the playoffs, and losing to them now doesn't mean we will lose in the playoffs.

I certainly would love to see the Cubs win, but a sweep now won't make the Cards play worse in October.

When your 4 and 9 against a team that has best overall record and you could face in playoffs, it doesn't hurt to win a couple here to gain some confidence for a young team..

Not saying they need a sweep, they have 6 games left against them.. going at least 3-3 now could give a young team a boost going against them in playoffs knowing they can compete with them when it matters. .

Anything can happen in a one game playoff, especially if it's at Wrigley. Cubs are playing as well or better then the Pirates right now and the Cardinals have to hit a low spot sometime, hopefully.

Not talking about the WC game against pirates and they've shown they could beat the Pirates. .

Talking about if they get past the WC they will face the Cardinals in NLDS..

These kids will have a lot more confidence going into that series knowing they played well against and beat them 3+ times in these final 6 games then if the Cardinals owned them again. ..

Just gaining confidence with Ws here that all..
