I see it as he has late ball movement and changes speed that induces lite contact. That is great and all. But it doesn't explain this current 'him'

I don't live in the past. Shaw and Max are plus stuff guys that can be flat dominate. They can pitch to lite contact or that can just punch them out because their talent is elite.

Hendricks on the other hand can't out talent the hitters. He has to be pin point with his location and velocity change. He can't just blow it past them or drop a mad hammer that buckles their knees or a slider that disappears like those 2.

Again it really is not elite talent that we are talking about here. It is about maxing out the talent that he has. Unfortunately it is not game changing talent.

It is like comparing a 20 Oz bottle and a 1 gal jug. filling up a 20 oz bottle to the top means you have maxed out your bottle. But take that 20 oz and pour it into a 1 gal it looks empty.

That is the difference in talent

He has never broken 200 IP. To me that is a TOR telling sign. For your info that is just under 6 IP on avg that he lasts career wise.

A chunk of what you are saying was from 2016. And that was a career year for him. most IP led league in ERA. The guy was locked in. But....last year 24 starts. injury that killed his velocity. He looked like crap going into it. Pre ASG: 4-3 4.09 Back of the rotation arm on a contender then post injury. 3-2 2.19 ERA. not the same guy and the uptick made a huge difference.

As far as I can see this is not a injury issue and I saw a pitch hit 89 MPH he left a 86 MPH over the plate that got crushed.

HR's. He was up to 14 which is basically 1 per game. Last year 17 in 24 games. Year before 15 in 30. looking at 2017 pre 9 in 11 post 8 in 13. So not much of a change.

But I see it as he is a location guy that depends on lite contact. A HR is anything but that. Which means guys are flat out squaring him up.

Stop living in the past. Look at it as it is. He is getting wrecked right now and his strength is not saving him. So his flaws are showing.

Please don't confuse talking with typing or reading. I rarely post here and have nothing to add to the prospect thread. I do read the prospect thread though every once in awhile. For myself I think it helps to read the entire last page or two, even if I have read the posts before just to see the names that pop up more than once.

For people like me who get all of our prospect information from this site, it is easier if it is all in the same place. I suspect many people read it every once in awhile, but not many follow the minors that closely now that the team is competing year after year. I don't read the game day threads that much when I am in the US. I am outside the US now.

Honestly, CSF77 has a good idea with daily or weekly (a couple of times a week) updates so that people can just read the last page and see the trends easily. Keeping the prospect information int the prospect tread just makes it much easier for a people who don't do the research to see the trends. The game series thread will be pushed down in a few weeks and if someone does not catch it then they won't be able to see a trend point later.

Greg Maddux did not become a great pitcher until he started pitching like Hendricks has always pitched. It just works when most MLB teams see 95 from everyone else. But its Hendricks, he lead the league in ERA and our fans still call him a #5. A #5 that had Cy Young votes.

With the Cubs his ERA went up a run then he hid away with SD and LAD which are run suppressing parks.

Kyle depends on late ball movement and velocity change between a 79 MPH change and a 89 MPH 2 seem. Both and moving around normally but that 10 MPH difference is the key on confusing a hitters timing.

Now when you start leaving 86 mph LOLLIPOPS over the hot zone you start to see yesterday’s results.

Joe confirmed what I noticed. Last year he dropped to 84-86 and caused his bloat. This year he has been healthy and the velocity is hovering around 90. He is not executing his pitches.

He didn't know if it is a release point issue or a grip situation but he is lacking late ball movement.

Getting to Greg: Greg was able to generate ball movement by increasing or decreasing finger pressure on the ball in his grip. It seems very slight and barely noticeable but that increase or decrease would change the amount of ball movement.

He was a master of his craft and he knew where that ball was going.

It does not help when the k zone says kyle is hitting the corner and he does not get the call either. I wont blame it on the ump, but if he is not getting the corners, he has no other option.

Hw not getting the corners and being pretty much a sift tosser, if he cant get those pitches on the edges called strikes and has to come in over the plate more he gonna get crushed...

Thurs off
Then a 6 game run.

I honestly think with the off days that they should spot start Hendricks and Chatwood in general and keep Q/Lester/Monty on regular 5 day rest.

now the Cubs go into a 11 day run right off the bat with a Sat DH. That is a point when you would think of expanding to 6 guys and adding Underwood for the DH. Hopefully Darvish returns stable and all. If it looks more serious then they need to start looking to make a deal.
