But he's done most of that damage at the bottom of the order. Jon Jay fills his role perfectly.
Hitting #1 Rizzo was the best lead off. .306/.379/.694
Zo and Jay were hovering around .240 Zo has the edge at .325 to .315 OBA.
Now we all joked about Rizzo leading off but he was honestly a all star level lead off with that production.
Hitting 3rd .250/.391/.477
Now it could just be a hot streak that was set off by the novelty of it all or the fact Bryant was hitting behind him.
But on that thought. If they wanted to roll with the 'joke' I believe Bryant suffered with Rizzo not behind him. So they would have to find a impact bat to fit between Bryant and Contreras in the 3 hole. Poor man thinking would be Zo or Happ playing 2B. or Schwarber in LF if he starts to hit again.
On Schwarber:
Apr: .204/.333/.344
May: .120/.232/.337
Jun: .196/.327/.522
Jul: .250/.333/.607
Aug: .286/.375/.357
So looking at the data he has swung upwards after his demote. This month there is really not the data to really make much of his SLG. A extra base or 2 really changes that. But in general I'm looking at the BA and each month it has jumped .050 from a low point in May. So I'm seeing a typical Sophomore slump going on.
So in view of this he really might start to turn it on over the last 2 months.
A for fun line up:
Rizzo 1B
Bryant RF
Schwarber LF
Contreras 3B
Avila C
Russell SS
Heyward CF
Baez 2B
A more realistic line up for the play offs:
Zo/Jay leading off
Bryant
Rizzo
Contreras (LF/C depending on Avila)
Schwarber/Avila
Russell
Heyward
Baez
Now trying to get Schwarber/Avila and Contreras every day would have to take Heyward moving to CF and Bryant moving off 3B. Or risking Contreras in RF. But I would rather push that with a DH.
