He hasn't really been in the discussion that has started in the last 6 weeks. Nats and Bum get all the love.
Not until last night. MLB network and ESPN Baseball Tonight are FINALLY putting Hendricks in that discussion. But yeah before yesterday it's been Bumgarner the Nats pitchers or if Kershaw wasnt hurt is what they talked about for the CY.

If the playoffs started next week I'd go Lester, Hendricks, Arrieta and Lackey and feel very good about my chances.

Jake is on the bump in game #1, whether we like it or not IMO. FO has to show the respect in light of Jake's past 2 seasons (less the preceding couple months when he remembered who he is) and more importantly, the contract negotiations and renewal.

I don't think so. If he's hot down the stretch I think he absolutely can start game 1 but if not they're going to go with their best chance to win which is Lester. Arrieta is still a very good pitcher but taking pressure of him by letting him start game 3, hopefully with a 2-0 lead or if not a 1-1 tie, probably puts him in his best position. Hendricks starts game 2 because of hi record in Wrigley. The respect thing matters for a season opener, not a playoff series for a WS contender. Also I don't think there is any way they ink Arrieta anyway so that point is moot. If they win this year I would not be at all surprised if they trade him in the offseason.

Could very well be true, but I'm far from certain they will trade him, either way we have to pay for a TOR $$$ - either to Jake or (hopefully) a younger player. Nice ot have options, and we certainly have trade assets.

Jake probably still gets more Cy Young votes than Lester and Hendricks so odds are he gets game 1. They are trying to work Lackey back in for Sundays start which puts Hendricks back in the 4 spot since Hammel was moved up to today after his side session getting pulled with 40 pitches. Its going to be interesting how much rest he gets these players. Bryzzo both in MVP contention, Jake and Kyle for Cy young, we will see if padding stats comes into play when the roster expands tomorrow. It would be nice to see Cahill, Montgomery and Zas starting the final three games to give Maddon every matchup option to get game 1 to his liking with his starting pitchers.

If the Cubs haven't clinched it all prior to the last series of the season...heck the last week of the season, something majorly happened like a car accident or something.

saw Clint Hurdles response, a guy I usually dont like at all saying it was like it was 1987 and greg maddux was on the mound.

I remember the way maddux pitched before he learned how to pitch, Kyle started where Maddux was at the top of his game.

Kyle has to lower his BB's to get to Greg's level. Many times he was under 30 with 200 innings.

Add to it Greg lived off a tailing fastball that he pushed over the corner to lefties. Kyle is now using a curve and cutter which Greg did not use.

Kyle is Kyle. He is not Greg II. The only things they have in common is control and lack of a overpowering fastball. Pitching style (Greg took a step/ Kyle lifts his knee) they are their own person.

Maddux got calls off the plate that no pitcher is going to get today. Umpires are continually getting internal feedback on strike zone data.

An extremely good point. Not so sure we can compare across eras easily anymore.

The Cy Young voting is not done until after the World Series has concluded. Does the Cubs front office have a time machine? And even if they did, why in the hell would they let the Cy Young voting determine their playoff rotation order?

All seasonal awards are done prior to the playoffs just announced after the playoffs

I am talking about Greg when he was at the experience level Kyle is now. Greg already had 200 starts by age 26, but he was all about the hard stuff early. He was more than dominant when he started nibbling and changing speeds when he got to Atlanta. That is the comparison, Kyle never had what Greg used at the beginning.

He would get the Ump to widen as the game went on. Early it would be more of a test to see where his borders were. Once he got that established he would widen it as the game went on.

He was a master for a reason.

Greg changed his delivery early on. Streamlined it more.

So IOW he got calls off the plate that today's pitchers don't.
