That will be useful timing with a tired bullpen to also grab a few more arms.

I think the bullpen will settle itself when Rondon, Smith and Lackey come back, pushing Montgomery back in to the bullpen or they may go six man for a month. Concepcion is the only other guy they may go to. The rest of the pitchers on the 40 are just fliers that didn't pan out. Maybe they promote Leathersich to the 40 man too.

Cubs next year could have one of the best offenses in the modern era. They're third this year in total runs but they could be even better next year with Schwarber in for Fowler, Heyward having any sort of bounce-bakc year, progression from the youth like Baez, Russell and Soler, and Contreras as a full-time C over the slapstick Montero/Ross duo.

Just crazy to think about how well Theo put this team together.

I meant to put this up a while ago, but this was Len Kasper to all the bitching about runners on third.

For those Cub fans who bemoan RiSP #s, keep this in mind: Cubs pitchers keeping opponents to worst avg w/RiSP in MLB--.200.

Len Kasper ‏@LenKasper Aug 26

...and it's not even close. They beat the field by 42 points! So, next time Cubs don't get runner in from 3B, keep that in mind.

Do they lead the league in 9th inning doubles in the month of August, too?

Woke up at 3AM to my crying 4 month old and saw we won. Awesome! It's a good thing I wasn't watching because with Montero at the plate, I would have thought for sure he'd hit into a triple play LOL.

Um, he's not going to risk injury to his guys. If you want to say he shouldn't have used Wood in the 7th and saved him as a possible late inning arm, I'd agree with that but I can't imagine Joe was thinking in the 7th about the 13th inning.

Rosters expand in three days and then this won't be a problem but he's not going to risk an injury to an arm that matters to win a meaningless game against the Pirates in August.

I'd also like to point out that Locke probably tired in that inning.
OTOH, September callups happen soon enough that Cahill would have plenty of opportunity for rest. It's really just your opinion. You arent going to get me to change my mind that he should have stuck with Cahill and not switched out Soler when he did. Go try to win the Internet against beckdawg.

Nah. They needed to trade him. Teammates wouldn't accept him. What they were saying publicly about liking him were lies. All lies! Well according to some forumites here anyway.

Funny how you don't notice things like this...I would've never guessed this to be fact. We get all wrapped up in our frustrations without ever thinking that there are fans of the other team getting frustrated as well.

Good info...enlightening.

Actually I was thinking something very similar the other day. With all the talk of we don't want to face this team or that team it bears mentioning that there is no team out there that wants to face the Cubs in the playoffs.

That they need him for the playoffs is the only reason he's still with the club. I think he'll be immediately released or traded at the first opportunity in the offseason, just to make a point.

I give it a 50/50 shot of him being gone, even if you are wrong on the reasons. ;)

I get where len's going here but one really doesn't have bearing on the other. For example, imagine if the cubs actually hit like we know they can with RISP. Then they are back to looking like one of the best run diff teams ever again.

It's baseball. Things even out. Also, they absolute do correlate if you are looking at run differential. You seem to want historic numbers in this post. I just want a championship.

I want a team to play their best. Going 4-18 with RISP should frustrate anyone. That's not taking anything away from their pitching. As for it evening out, this is a reoccurring trend they've had issues with. Am I suicidal on a ledge about it? No but when they lose games it's generally been because of that. Think it's perfectly reasonable for fans to feel frustrated by it.

Why settle for just a championship, when you can have a historic championship? [emoji38]
