A few thoughts from yesterday:
1) Travis Wood should be ashamed of himself. It ended up not mattering because we didn't score a run, but for Wood to walk both Navarro and Schmuck -- with matching .260 OBP's -- he should be ashamed of himself. If I were Theo Epstein, I would have walked onto the field towards the mound in the middle of the inning and released him in front of 39,500 fans. To walk two guys who are not MLB caliber hitters, it's absolutely appalling. I'm embarrassed for him.
2) Jason Heyward should issue an apology to the Chicago Cubs organization, to his fellow team mates, to the city of Chicago, and Cubs fans every where. My friend called him a 6'5" black Darwin Barney. I want him to hold a Press Conference and apologize to us. If he didn't have a $185M contract, he would be in Iowa right now. If we're going to play somebody with his production, I'd rather it be Almora Jr. Almora Jr is making $20M less per year than Heyward. Jason Heyward should give back $15M of his salary this season.
3) Kyle Hendricks did his job. He gave us 2 runs in 6 innings. With a lineup featuring Rizzo, Bryant, etc -- that should be more than enough. But James Shields made Kris Bryant look silly. James Shields sucks - mind you. I don't care if he's throwing better lately -- he was nearly optioned down after his first four starts. There is no way James Shields should throw 7 scoreless innings against us.
4) How is the acquisition of Chapman going to help us when we can't hit? Or when we do hit, we can't drive the runners home? Chapman won't see the field in the playoffs. We beat Texas and the Mets and Theo thought we were bouncing back - and he was wrong. We won 4 out of 6 games -- way, way too soon to declare us back. Now we gave us Torres for a guy who can't get on the field and we still can't hit for the life us.
5) Chris Sale will no-hit us tomorrow -- which will demoralize the Cubs in a way the first two Pirates games did before the All-Star break. A Chris Sale no-hitter will be a Death Blow to the season.
