2012 NBA Finals -- Miami Heat's LeBron James responds to Oklahoma City Thunder's Serge Ibaka's comments - ESPN
as if LBJ needed any more motivation.
I expect Durant to have a bad game now.
He hasn't had 1 yet in the Finals, so I guess he could be due for 1 but I don't see that happening really.
As for the comments, Ibaka is partially right. No one (that includes Lebron) can defend Durant 1-on-1 for extended stretches. He's simply too good. The same can be said for Lebron. Now I don't know exactly how the question posed to Ibaka was phrased, but keep in mind English is Ibaka's SECOND language. If he misunderstood a part of the question or interpreted it differently, it can explain some of how he responded.
I will say this in Ibaka's defense as well. Lebron tends to be overrated defensively imho. That's not to say he's a bad defender though. He's not a particularly strong 1-on-1 defender against quicker players, but his recovery time & athleticism help mask this because he is probably the best at chasing down players from behind. He's an incredible help defender, no question there. But this whole lockdown defender image that people seem to perpetuate with Lebron is really a fallacy.
it's one thing to say that no one can defend Durant 1-on-1, because really, nobody can, but it's a whole different thing when Ibaka says that James can only play defense for 2-3 minutes a game, not 48. He also said James was not a good defender. There's not many ways you can interpret those 2 statements.
As for the second part, there really aren't mant guys in the league that CAN consistently guard someone 1-on-1. With no hand-checking and all the touch fouls that are called, it's hard to play great man defense and lock someone down.
wade's hurt.
First good start for OKC all series.
Will they keep it up?
LBJ is gonna get a triple double.
