Bit off topic. This is my feelings about the state of the Cubs

Best case

Cubs hover .500
Miley comes back strong.

July Cubs trade Miley and Contreras. Back fill with Kilian and John Hicks. Start Gomes at catcher everyday. Kilian goes into the rotation.

Davis promoted and starts in LF Happ moved to main DH.

Line up changes a bit, but nothing major.

Offseason.

Target Josh Bell for 1B/DH

Target a TOR

Guys on the market

Manaea Best arm IMO. Lefty fits with what the Cubs should have in 2023.
Syndergaard Just because.
Taillon Ditto
Bauer Dude knows how to pitch and is a bit of a teacher. His drama will lower his market value. He goes 4/125 I think Jed goes there.

But I would focus on 2 guys yet again. This year Stroman and Suzuki. Manaea and Bell would be huge.

Team look out then.

Manaea
Stroman
Hendricks
Steele
Kilian
Alzolay I hope that he gets pushed into the closer roll with Thompson as the 8th inning guy.

LF Happ
CF Davis
RF Suzuki
4th Heyward

3B Wisdom
SS Hoerner
2B Madgrial
1B Schwindel
UI (F/A)

DH Bell
C Gomez

So this puts the top prospects at

Hernandez A to A+ (not on a team yet)
Trianos A+
Wicks AA-AAA (It would be wise to get him 80 IP this year and have him push to 100 in 2023. Right now at 7.1 with a combined total of 14.1.
Alcantara A+
Caissie AA
Hertz AA
Marquez AAA He is still not playing in league play. There is a outside chance to push Steele out. This really depends on what he does this year. He has 257 IP of pro-ball going in and his last full season he put in 103IP. This year should end up being 50-70 IP
Preciado A+
Franklin AA
Amaya AAA most likely due to lost time.
Howard AA
Made A+
Velaquez AAA (Trade fodder)
Jensen AAA (Pen arm)
Canario AA
Franklin A+
Pinango AA

Building up arm strength
Marquez is still building up arm strength in extended spring training before being assigned to the upper levels of the minors, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.
Impact He was a late arrival to spring training after getting COVID-19 in the Dominican Republic. Given that Marquez missed all of 2021 with a shoulder injury, he was going to have his workload managed this season anyway, so the Cubs may not be in a rush to send him to a full-season affiliate. He should open at either Double-A or Triple-A and may have some rust to knock off.
